HIDALGO COUNTY - A parcel of land used by illegal immigrants to make an improvised camp belongs to the federal government, records show.
Border Patrol agents arrested 29 immigrants at the site north of Edinburg. The camp was near Monte Cristo and Wallace roads.
The property is registered to the U.S. Fish and Wildlife Department, records show.
Access trails were visible at the campsite. Officials speculate that smugglers were using the campsite as a holding site for immigrants.
