Fax Congress: Tell them to OPPOSE federal gun control!

Despite what some of our "elected servants" may say, you can't defend the Constitution by destroying it.

Right now, there are a growing number of Congressmen - some even posing as our allies - that are calling for "sensible" or "commonsense" gun-control.

Let it be said that there is no such thing as "sensible" gun-control - gun-control only is or itis not; the Second Amendment only is or it is not. There is no middle ground.

However, the anti-gunners want the American people to think otherwise. They want us to think that their outright attacks on the Second Amendment are somehow within the bounds of their oath of office.

House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi is a perfect example of this kind of doublespeak. She said late last week:


"Last month, all of us, including the President of the United States, took an oath of office to protect and defend the Constitution and all of the rights contained therein. Every person who holds public office takes that oath - to protect and defend, it is our first responsibility. Following what happened in Connecticut in December, the President has said: "This time it will be different," as we go forth to protect and defend."


(This quote was taken from her dialogue supporting Rep. Mike Thompson's dangerous14-point plan for gun-control - the most recent House effort opposing private gun-ownership. More details below.)

While Pelosi is correct in stating that her and her colleagues' role is to "protect and defend," she is dead wrong in thinking that she can do so by erasing the Second Amendment.

That's right; Pelosi - or anyone in government - can neither "protect" nor "defend" the Constitution or the People by destroying the Constitution, in this case the Second Amendment.

Rep. Pelosi and her ilk must not succeed in their efforts to deprive Americans of the Second Amendment.

House support for Gun-Control Grows, 14-point plan introduced:

A House committee published on Friday a multi-point plan that would kill our right to keep and bear arms.

The committee called the Gun Violence Prevention Task Force (GVPTF) was headed by California's Rep. Mike Thompson.

The Hill reports,

"Thompson's group is ... pushing for steps to crack down on gun trafficking and straw purchases and to boost school safety, gun safety training, mental health programs and to promote research on the 'glorification of violence' in popular culture. In a press conference at their annual retreat in Virginia, Democratic leaders couched their proposals in the context of the Second Amendment, arguing that they would not infringe on anyone's constitutional right to bear arms."

While parts of the plan (read it here) may sound compatible with the Constitution - citing the popular Heller case, expressly stating that it supports Second Amendment rights, etc. - it is not. Again, Congress is not vested with any power to infringe upon the Second Amendment whatsoever; Congress cannot modify the People's right to gun-ownership in any way without changing the Constitution itself.

Do not be mistaken, the GVPTF's gun-control plan is not in accord with the Constitution as it is written, and Rep. Thompson - the so-called gun-friendly Rep. - is a wolf in sheep's clothing.

The Second Amendment expressly states that "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Period.

The Feinstein Bill:

Sen. Feinstein, author of the 1994 Assault Weapons Ban, has long been an enemy of private gun-owners and the God-given right to self-defense.

Senator Feinstein, keeping in line with Rahm Emanuel's rule of thumb to "never waste a crisis," immediately began calling for increased gun-control after the terrible event at Sandy Hook Elementary in December.

However, when the California Senator first committed to re-introduce her former Assault Weapons Ban we didn't have the specifics - but now we do.

As it turns out, her newest effort is even more stringent than her former Bill, which passed under our last Democrat president, Bill Clinton.

Feinstein's current push prohibits over one-hundred fifty gun models, banning not only semi-automatic rifles, but also certain types of shotguns and handguns; her legislation would also prohibit so-called "high-capacity" magazines and establish a national gun-registry.

Here is just a taste of what her Bill would accomplish. "The legislation bans the sale, transfer, manufacturing and importation of ..." the Senator's website reports:

  • All semiautomatic rifles that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: pistol grip; forward grip; folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; barrel shroud; or threaded barrel.
  • All semiautomatic pistols that can accept a detachable magazine and have at least one military feature: threaded barrel; second pistol grip; barrel shroud; capacity to accept a detachable magazine at some location outside of the pistol grip; or semiautomatic version of an automatic firearm.
  • All semiautomatic rifles and handguns that have a fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 10 rounds.
  • All semiautomatic shotguns that have a folding, telescoping, or detachable stock; pistol grip; fixed magazine with the capacity to accept more than 5 rounds; ability to accept a detachable magazine; forward grip; grenade launcher or rocket launcher; or shotgun with a revolving cylinder.
  • All ammunition feeding devices (magazines, strips, and drums) capable of accepting more than 10 rounds.
  • 157 specifically-named firearms ... (Click here and scroll to the bottom of the page to see the full list of prohibited weapons.)


Further, this Bill - unlike her 1994 ban - does not have a sunset provision; in other words, if passed, it would be for all intents and purposes a permanent measure!

Two members of the House of Representatives - Reps. Carolyn McCarthy (D-N.Y.) and Ed Perlmutter (D-C.O.) - have a sister bill for their chamber.

The Feinstein Bill: Immediate Support:

When Sen. Feinstein introduced her Weapons Ban on Thursday, January 24, she immediately had support in both chambers of Congress. In her chamber alone, Senators Charles Schumer (D-N.Y.), Dick Durbin (D-Ill.), Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Carl Levin (D-Mich.), John Rockefeller (D-W.Va.), Barbara Mikulski (D-Md.), Barbara Boxer (D-Calif.), Jack Reed (D-R.I.), Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.), Robert Menendez (D-N.J.), Ben Cardin (D-Md.), Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.), Brian Schatz (D-Hawaii), Chris Murphy (D-Conn.) and Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) all have thrown their support behind the Feinstein Bill.

Although many Republicans are and will remain opposed to the Feinstein's anti-gun efforts, the California Senator told CNN recently that she remains optimistic regardless. She said:

"Now, will [anti-gun legislation] only be assault weapons? No, most likely. There will be a package put together. If assault weapons is left out of the package ... I've been assured by the majority leader I'll be able to do it as an amendment on the [Senate] floor, which is the way I did it in 1993."

We must take action and demand the U.S. Congress to oppose this unconstitutional piece of legislation and all other bills - or amendments to bills - that would accomplish similar goals.

The Feinstein Bill: Reading the Fine-Print:

Senator Dianne Feinstein's "gun list" - mentioned above - may be smoke screen. A gun-law expert is saying that if the fine-print is considered, the Feinstein Bill is not an "assault weapons" ban at all - it is simply a gun ban!

This is to say that a gun's make, model, clip size, etc. essentially makes no difference at the end of the day - the Feinstein Bill would ban nearly all semi-automatic firearms.

In a recent report, gun-law expert Alan Korwin* said that "any semiautomatic firearm that uses a magazine - handgun, rifle or shotgun - equipped with a 'pistol grip,' would be banned."

Although the "pistol grip" verbiage may sound like a limited restriction, something that only applies to a small sub-set of weapons, it is not - it is a sweeping provision that will affect far more than the 157 weapons that Feinstein has listed.

"A pistol grip (on page 2) is defined (on page 13) as 'a grip, a thumb-hole stock, or any other characteristic that can function as a grip,'" Korwin told a news source, "In other words, the gun list does not matter. It is a smokescreen designed to distract people from the true meaning of the Bill. And it has done a magnificent job. It worked! Any semi-automatic firearm that exists, with anything on it you can grip, is banned. (There is a grandfather clause for old stuff.)"

This means that every weapon with a "pistol grip" could be banned under the Feinstein Bill; in other words, any semi-automatic firearm that is able to be "gripped" would be completely prohibited if the law is passed and enforced to the letter.

Gun-Control: A Double-Standard:

Double-standards are all too common in Washington.

So often, lawmakers wrongfully legislate - in the name of the people, no less - as if there are two planes of morality: one set of rules for government and another set for the people.

This sort of bad thinking is not only untrue, but at odds with liberty. However, it's just this kind of "reasoning" that Big Government politicians use all the time - giving themselves more power, and leaving the American people with less.

Senator Dianne Feinstein is leading a legislative charge against law-abiding, gun-owning Americans that would essentially annul our Second Amendment rights.

While the Feinstein Bill specifically bans Americans from owning over 150 weapons models - and a host of others under the "pistol grip" rule - it takes absolutely no firepower away from government officials.

That's right, while Sen. Feinstein - a woman who used carry concealed - seeks to disarm law-abiding Americans through unconstitutional legislation, government bureaucrats (and criminals, of course) are left totally unaffected.

Right now, the Department of Homeland Security is requesting an extra 7,000 "personal defense weapons" - which Feinstein calls "assault weapons" if held by anyone outside of government - for their own officials. It gets better: these weapons also have clips that hold 30-rounds, three times the size of those she wants make standard under law!

This sheer double-standard is dangerous and out to be opposed by all decent members of Congress.

The Second Amendment clearly states that the right to bear arms "shall not be infringed" - not by anyone, especially a gun-toting government!

Other Anti-Gun Legislation:

While the Feinstein Bill alone accomplishes many of Obama's January 16th legislative requests, it is not the only bill we need to demand U.S. Congressmen to oppose. There are two other bills that reiterate similar gun-control measures: the Schumer Bill and the Lautenberg Bill.

New York's Charles Schumer has introduced a bill that would establish universal background checks. The Senator told Meet the Press that such checks are the "sweet spot" of the gun control debate and that he suspects to see support in "the coming weeks."

Frank Lautenberg (D-N.J.) - the Senator who expressed he was "confident" gun-control bills would pass in the 113th Congress - had introduced on Tuesday, January 22nd, a bill that would limit "high-capacity" magazines.

The New Jersey Senator said, "It is clearer than ever that there is no place in our communities for military-style supersized magazines like those used inside Sandy Hook Elementary School, in Aurora, and in Tucson, and I will keep working to reinstate the ban on them."

The Lautenberg Bill also has a House counterpart; like the Feinstein Bill it is sponsored by New York's Rep. McCarthy.

While these Bills may seem redundant, we must still demand they be opposed. Anti-gun Senators do not write these to waste their time; they write them because, if passed, they're effective.

Media & Public Determination:

What's as bad as the gun bills themselves is the propaganda coming from the Mainstream Media.

Whether or not they are reporting the truth, Major Media groups are suggesting that more and more Americans are on board with the federal government's anti-gun and anti-liberty efforts. They are reporting things like "Gun-control Support Rising" and "Poll: Most Favor Obama on Gun-control" - see Gallup, CNN, SFGate, CBS, WaPo, UPI, Yahoo!, and ABC, which are only a few of the many.

While we don't believe that these reports or polls truly represent most American individuals, we do know such information has a powerful impact on the millions who listen.

Despite all of the Americans who support the Second Amendment as it stands - and we argue that they are the true majority - there is very little press coming to the defense of the right of the individual to own the weapon or weapons of his or her choice.

Through their unbalanced reporting, Mainstream Media is sending a message - true or not - in their game to influence "the public mind." They have three goals: 1) to cause patriotic and pro-gun Americans to think the battle is already over, that the cards are stacked against them, and that there is no use in taking political action; 2) to cause those who are legitimately confused about how to effectively minimize violence to think that removing guns is the solution (while the opposite is true); and, 3) to incite those opposed to private gun-ownership into supporting political action that would disarm their neighbors.

It is very important we recognize the Media's role in our society. By promoting lies and blocking the truth, and by espousing bad ideas and prohibiting good ideas, the Mainstream Media so often collectively succeeds in misleading and hampering the consciences of many. It's time we stop listening to them.

As Obama and anti-gun Congressmen work hand-in-hand to redefine the Second Amendment, it's time that we acquaint ourselves with the truth.

The Second Amendment does not say "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed, except by a majority vote." No! It says "the right to keep and bear arms shall not be infringed." Period!

Liberty or Tyranny?

Senator Dianne Feinstein unashamedly said in her January 24th address that her intent was to "dry up" the supply of guns over time.

This very tactic has been used before by tyrants throughout history; not surprisingly, it had been attempted in early America by Great Britain. George Mason said that that the British initiated arms controls over the colonies, he said such was "the best and most effectual way to enslave them [the colonists]."

That's right: arms control is the best way for a government to "enslave" the people.

Make no mistake; we are in the middle of an unprecedented fight between liberty and tyranny, between freedom and control, between the Constitution and Washington.

The People's right to "keep and bear arms" - the Second Amendment - is at risk.

Already we witnessed Obama's executive attack on the Second Amendment by twenty-three executive actions, including three Presidential Memoranda. And now we have weapon, clip, and ammunition bans coming from Congress, alongside of pushes for things like universal background checks.

The Feinstein Weapons Ban is an assault on the Second Amendment and must be opposed by ever decent and patriotic Congressperson.

The fact is, the Second Amendment doesn't secure that government officials have the right to bear arms - it secures the People's right to bear arms.

The founders gave the American People the right to "keep and bear arms" and declared that that right "shall not be infringed" - not by local government, state government, or the federal government - it is our duty to defend it!
