Teacher’s Union President Threatens to Punch You in the Face if You Oppose Common Core (VIDEO)

Video surfaced on Thursday showing Michael Mulgrew, president of New York’s United Federation of Teachers, as he unloaded a hateful rant against critics of the Common Core Standards Initiative.
“If someone takes something from me, I’m going to grab it right back out of their cold, twisted, sick hands and say it is mine!” Mulgrew bellowed clownishly. “You do not take what is mine!”
The union boss also challenged opponents of Common Core and union control over education to a fist fight.
“I’m going to punch you in the face and push you in the dirt because this is the teachers’!” Mulgrew threatened.
The teachers union bigwig made the speech at a convention in Los Angeles last month, according to the New York Daily News.
Ed Notes Online, a blog that follows education news, posted the screed yesterday.
Mulgrew’s bizarro, menacing outburst was part of an intense debate on a mundane resolution calling on the 1.4 million-member American Federation of Teachers to continue its support the implementation of Common Core.
“I’ve heard the stories about how Eli Broad, Bill Gates, Joel Klein and a flying saucer full of Martians designed these things to brainwash us all,” Mulgrew also raged in scorn of the growing grassroots tide of opposition to Common Core.
Attendees at the convention said the hulking, bald and very angry union boss’s intimidating diatribe was frightening.
“It was scary,” a member of the audience who wished to remain anonymous told the Daily News. “People were saying that he shouldn’t be around children.”
Across the country, bureaucrats in 45 states, Washington, D.C., and four U.S. territories had originally decided to implement Common Core with virtually no democratic input.
Since then, a handful of states have either neutered or — in the case of Oklahoma — banned Common Core entirely. Legislatures in several more states are mulling bills that would limit the controversial national standards.

School Textbook Pornographic Content Results in Shocked Parents

Once again, parents who hand over their children to state indoctrination centers, aka Public Schools, are shocked at what they find godless education systems are putting in front of their kids. Latonya Stevenson came across graphics in her child's textbook that she called "very pornographic."

The book I'm referencing is called Your Health Today, which is nearly 400 pages long. Not only does it describe how to buy condoms, but it also describes orgasms, vibrators and bondage, something that they could easily learn upon entering their local Planned Parenthood facility.

    Video at the page Link:

Something tied closely to the things described is binge drinking, which is also mentioned in the book.
"Our high-school students today need all the tools they can have to arm themselves to make the best- informed decision," said school district Board President Lara Calvert-York.
Keep in mind that the book was chosen unanimously by the teachers of this district's children.
Mrs. Stevenson exclaimed, "It's a bit much for me, I'm not comfortable with my child – I mean, wow, that's, the graphics are extreme – oh my gosh. They are very pornographic. The pictures are very explicit."
A senior at Kennedy High School, Judy Le, said, ""I don't think we really need to know about that at this age. I feel like it's more of like, adults."
Good for Judy! This isn't even things that adults should be having to deal with in their children's education, let alone being confronted with it in real life.
"Those anatomy pieces of health education are required to be taught. It's part of students' learning about their bodies," said Fremont Unified School District superintendent Jim Morris.

Another sophomore, Nicholas Loya, said, "Knowing high schoolers, they're probably going to find out anyway, so it's better to know from a responsible adult."
Yes, young people are going to find out about sexual intercourse and their bodies, but shouldn't they be learning that from their parents? Shouldn't they be learning a more biblical approach of abstinence and saving themselves for their marriage partner? I know that is what I communicate to my children.
This is nothing more than opening up Pandora's Box to young, impressionable minds to sexual immorality.
Asfia Ahmed, the mother of an up and coming 9th grader said, that the book is too graphic, but went a step further and actually wrote the author, who told her the book was targeted fro college freshmen.
So far, nearly 1,800 student have signed an online petition to have the book removed. Good for them! Where the adults will not lead, the young people are. I encourage everyone to join these young people in pushing back against that that seek to steal their innocence and push them in to the depraved thinking that our culture is attempting to drop them in. There is also an option for parents to opt out of the class if it "conflicts" with their "religious training and beliefs."
This, to me, seems to be the easy way out. Parents, these are your children, not the state's. Not only should you opt out of the class, you should remove your children from the state indoctrination centers and educate them yourselves. God gave them to you, after all, not the state (Deut. 6). And if you are fearful of educating them yourself, don't be, just remember, all that is required is for you to learn and then pass that on to your kids. There is an excellent free curriculum for K-5th grade available here to get you started.
Why fight the system when you can circumvent it by simply being the parent God wants you to be and educating your children at home? In this way, you will be actually undermining the system and educating your children with the values you hold dear, not the perversions of the enemies of God.

Teacher Faces Rape, Sodomy Charges After Second Student Comes Forward

Teacher Faces Rape, Sodomy Charges After Second Student Comes Forward

A Utah high school teacher accused of having a sexual relationship with one student has had her trial canceled after a second student came forward to claim that he and the teacher also had a sexual relationship through all of last spring.
Prosecutors have filed six new charges against 35-year-old Brianne Land Altice after a 17-year-old student claimed he had intercourse and oral sex with the teacher between April and June of 2013.
Altice had already been accused of having sex with a 16-year-old student multiple times between January and September of 2013.
Altice now faces six new first-degree felony charges, including a charge of rape and one count of forcible sodomy.
She had already been charged with three counts of first-degree rape and one count of first-degree sodomy for her alleged relationship with the first student that came forward.
Prosecutors have canceled Altice’s original trial, which had been scheduled for September, and will bring new charges against her this week.
Prosecutors say the teacher admitted to having sex with the 16-year-old student at least twice but her attorney is requesting that her confession be inadmissible, saying she was intimidated and coerced by 8-10 male officers who questioned her for four hours without letting her leave or call an attorney.
“Her statements were coerced and involuntary and were taken in violation of her so-called Miranda rights,” attorney Edward Brass said. “The evidence she provided was the product of that tainted statement.”
Altice had taught in the Davis County School District since 2004.
After her arrest, she was fired from her job and Altice’s husband filed for divorce and custody of their child.
A scheduling conference has been set for Friday to determine a new trial date.

Teachers Union Head Throws Down to Opponents of Common Core: ‘You Sick People Need to Deal With Us’

619 Shares By Mike Miller 4 hours ago

Common Core, the program that seeks to set curriculum standards for grades K-12, has its share of opponents. Michael Mulgrew, president of the United Federation of Teachers, the trade union of teachers in New York City, has a message for them: “You sick people need to deal with us.”
“If someone takes something from me, I’m going to grab it right back out of their cold, twisted, sick hands and say it is mine! You do not take what is mine! … I’m going to punch you in the face and put you in the dirt!”

“You sick people need to deal with us and the children we teach!”
Really? Punch these “sick” people in the face and put them “in the dirt” because they disagree with the way English, math and science are being taught by a controversial program which is opposed by a number of the nation’s governors, along with top university professors?

To be sure, Common Core math is confusing, to say the least. That being said, can we not have an intelligent debate on the education of our children without this kind of angry emotional rhetoric?

Teachers Union Big Wig Says It's Not About Kids, It's About Power!

National Education Association’s retiring top lawyer, Bob Chanin, speaking at the NEA’s annual meeting in July, 2009:
“Despite what some among us would like to believe it is not because of our creative ideas. It is not because of the merit of our positions. It is not because we care about children and it is not because we have a vision of a great public school for every child. NEA and its affiliates are effective advocates because we have power.”
“And we have power because there are more than 3.2 million people who are willing to pay us hundreds of millions of dollars in dues each year, because they believe that we are the unions that can most effectively represent them, the unions that can protect their rights and advance their interests as education employees.”
“This is not to say that the concern of NEA and its affiliates with closing achievement gaps, reducing dropout rates, improving teacher quality and the like are unimportant or inappropriate. To the contrary. These are the goals that guide the work we do. But they need not and must not be achieved at the expense of due process, employee rights and collective bargaining. That simply is too high a price to pay.”

Chicago Teachers Union passes resolution opposing Common Core

    By Valerie Strauss May 9

Karen Lewis, president of the Chicago Teachers Union, addresses a crowd in 2012 in Chicago. (Charles Rex Arbogast/AP).
The Chicago Teachers’ Union House of Delegates has passed a resolution opposing use of the Common Core State Standards in teaching and testing, and it plans to lobby the Illinois Board of Education to reverse approval of the Core and ask its parent union, the American Federation of Teachers, to consider it at its upcoming convention.
AFT President Randi Weingarten has been a longtime supporter of the standards, but she has called for revisions of the early childhood standards, calling them developmentally inappropriate, and has blasted the implementation of the initiative. She has also pushed for a delay in the use of new Core-aligned student standardized tests as part of the evaluation of teachers. The AFT, however, has over the last several years accepted millions of dollars in funding from the Gates Foundation to support the Core, though Weingarten recently announced that the AFT would no longer accept Gates money for its Innovation Fund in a bow to growing criticism of the standards initiative.
Chicago union President Karen Lewis said in a statement:
“I agree with educators and parents from across the country, the Common Core mandate represents an overreach of federal power into personal privacy as well as into state educational autonomy. Common Core eliminates creativity in the classroom and impedes collaboration. We also know that high-stakes standardized testing is designed to rank and sort our children and it contributes significantly to racial discrimination and the achievement gap among students in America’s schools.”
Illinois adopted the Common Core standards in 2010 and school districts in the state have since then been implementing them in classrooms. During that time, opposition to the Core has grown from all ends of the political spectrum. Some opponents say the standards themselves have problems, especially the ones for young children; other critics say the process by which the Core was written was flawed and the implementation in many places has so far been nothing short of a mess.

Here’s the official text of the resolution:
Resolution to Oppose the Common Core State Standards
WHEREAS, the purpose of education is to educate a populace of critical thinkers who are capable of shaping a just and equitable society in order to lead good and purpose-filled lives, not solely preparation for college and career; and
WHEREAS, instructional and curricular decisions should be in the hands of classroom professionals who understand the context and interests of their students; and
WHEREAS, the education of children should be grounded in developmentally appropriate practice; and
WHEREAS, high quality education requires adequate resources to provide a rich and varied course of instruction, individual and small group attention, and wrap-around services for students; and
WHEREAS, the Common Core State Standards were developed by non-practitioners, such as test and curriculum publishers, as well as education reform foundations, such as the Gates and Broad Foundations, and as a result the CCSS better reflect the interests and priorities of corporate education reformers than the best interests and priorities of teachers and students; and
WHEREAS, the Common Core State Standards were piloted incorrectly, have been implemented too quickly, and as a result have produced numerous developmentally inappropriate expectations that do not reflect the learning needs of many students; and
WHEREAS, imposition of the Common Core State Standards adversely impacts students of highest need, including students of color, impoverished students, English language learners, and students with disabilities; and
WHEREAS, the Common Core State Standards emphasize pedagogical techniques, such as close reading, out of proportion to the actual value of these methods – and as a result distort instruction and remove instructional materials from their social context; and
WHEREAS, despite the efforts of our union to provide support to teachers, the significant time, effort, and expense associated with modifying curricula to the Common Core State Standards interferes and takes resources away from work developing appropriate and engaging courses of study; and
WHEREAS, the assessments that accompany the Common Core State Standards (PARCC and Smarter Balance) are not transparent in that –teachers and parents are not allowed to view the tests and item analysis will likely not be made available given the nature of computer adaptive tests; and
WHEREAS, Common Core assessments disrupt student learning, consuming tremendous amounts of time and resources for test preparation and administration; and
WHEREAS, the assessment practices that accompany Common Core State Standards – including the political manipulation of test scores – are used as justification to label and close schools, fail students, and evaluate educators; therefore be it
RESOLVED that the Chicago Teachers Union opposes the Common Core State Standards (and the aligned tests) as a framework for teaching and learning; and be it further
RESOLVED, the Chicago Teachers Union advocates for an engaged and socially relevant curriculum that is student-based and supported by research, as well as for supports such as those described in the Chicago Teachers Union report, The Schools Chicago’s Students Deserve; and be it further
RESOLVED, the Chicago Teachers Union will embark on internal discussions to educate and seek feedback from members regarding the Common Core and its impact on our students; and be it further
RESOLVED, the Chicago Teachers Union will lobby the Illinois Board of Education to eliminate the use of the Common Core State Standards for teaching and assessment; and be it further
RESOLVED, the Chicago Teachers Union will organize other members and affiliates to increase opposition to the Common Core State Standards; and be it further
RESOLVED, that a copy of this resolution be sent to the Illinois State Board of Education, the Chicago Board of Education, the Governor of Illinois, and all members of the Illinois legislative branch; and be it finally
RESOLVED, that should this resolution be passed by the CTU House of Delegates, an appropriate version will be submitted to the American Federation of Teachers for consideration at the 2014 Convention.
