UCSB Killer Elliot Rodger: Another Self Centered Young Man Without God

UCSB Killer Elliot Rodger: Another Self Centered Young Man Without God

Richard Martinez, the father of Christopher Michaels-Martinez, blamed politicians and gun-rights proponents at a news conference Saturday. "When will this insanity stop? … Too many have died. We should say to ourselves `not one more,'" he said. Source: Fox News

As the dust begins to clear on another mass killing, many are looking for someone to blame. Is Mr. Martinez right?

    Is it the politicians?
How do you legislate morality? What could politicians have done to stop this kid? We live in a nation of 300 million people. To expect any police force or political body to be able to stop such tragedies is asking a lot.
    Is it the guns?
The first three people were butchered with a knife so let's not even go there. This is a tragedy that was not going to be avoided by some magical law, or set of several laws. Sometimes bad things happen in life.
The fact that bad things happen in life is exactly my point. In the end, Elliot Rodger was a kid who felt that the world somehow owed him something. He allowed himself to play the victim. He was of the belief that his will was more important than God's will. From the disturbing video he left, I would conclude that he had no real concept of God or desire to serve Him. He had no concept of serving others. His obsession was in what others owed him.
If ever there was a wake-up call for America, this would be it. If we are honest, most of us can see a little of that "me, me, me" Elliot Rodger attitude in ourselves and you do not have to be a preacher, psychologist, or politician to see how that attitude is not healthy.
We are a morally bankrupt nation and this kid may as well be our poster child.
There was no talk from Elliot Rodger of premarital sex being morally wrong. This is 2014. That kind of talk died years ago. We live in a world where society would rather pass out condoms than condemn premarital sex.
He didn't acknowledge the free will of those around him. He was simply about vengeance. He was about extracting revenge from those who did not bow to his desires.
This was all about him. The kid had a God complex and this is exactly what happens when society starts to turn away from God. We can only expect more and more of this because America does not seem to understand the root of the problem. Or maybe we just don't care.
The problem does not come from guns or knives. The problem is that people are no longer grounded in morality.
You can tell from the now infamous YouTube video that this kid had zero character and no moral fiber. He was quite delusional. He saw himself as some sort of gift to women and those women should be punished for not accepting him. Here is that video:

The whole video is "me, me, me" and that is exactly what America has become. This murder spree is an indictment of the American way and a reflection on all of us.
I cannot tell you that a kid who is raised Christian would not be capable of such things, because some kids rebel against their upbringing. We all know that.
But that doesn't mean that we should not try.
I live in a town of about 8,000 people and a group of youth, from a local church, passed out free Bibles and a Billy Graham video, to everyone in town, just a few weeks ago. These kids are being raised to believe that there is a reward in serving others. They believe that there is something in life much bigger than they are. And it's true.
The easiest way to get out of your own head, and forget your own problems, is to do service work for others. In the 12-step programs they say, "You only get to keep what you have by giving it away."

This is an important concept which society has forgotten. We do not have time for our fellow man. We do not have time to touch the lives of others in a positive way. We do not have time for God.
If you haven't seen it, you really should watch this video titled "Look Up." It's not really about God but it does touch upon the personal relationships we are missing out on:

Do you think that Elliot Rodger was lonely? Do you think he might have found some solace in looking up? Or maybe someone needed to look up at him and notice that there was a lonely soul that needed a friend.
What do you do if you look up and no one is looking back? Well, you have to know that there is One who will always hear your cries and always love you, no matter how many times you fail.
Ultimately, the responsibility is his, because no matter how we are raised we must learn to break the mold and seek our own genuine happiness. But some kids get a serious jump start on that happiness if they are raised correctly.
It all starts at home and if kids are not being taught moral principles then it is a problem. When you throw in an American society that has turned its collective back on morality, then it certainly does not help support the kids who are not being raised correctly in the first place.
Every problem in this country can be traced back to the same core concept and yet people cannot see it or simply refuse to accept it (due to their own selfishness).
Kids that believe in Santa Claus take joy in that portly man in the red suit who shows up once a year. They will take that same joy in believing in Jesus Christ, who died for their salvation and a loving God, who watches over them. That, my friend, fills Christmas and the other 364 days of the year, because God is faithful and always there.
There is a void in many people and it's called a "God-Sized Hole." They try to fill it with sex, food, alcohol, drugs (prescription or otherwise), gambling, internet addiction, video games, television, pornography, money, or any other variety of things. Some addictions are better than others. I was once a fitness junkie. It didn't make me happier. It kept me miserable because my body was never good enough. On another occasion, I filled my God sized hole with about a million dollars, but it was still not enough. I have also been addicted to many of the darker things on the list and it is all the same. There is never enough and the obsession takes over.
There is only one thing that can fill a "God-Sized Hole" and you know what that is.
Until America accepts the truth, and changes course, then I suppose there will be plenty of stories like this to write about. This kid made some bad choices, but he was certainly a microcosm of the societal decay that is America.
I don't believe that you have to be Christian to have morals. Christianity is what I know, but I also know good moral people with belief systems other than mine. But you must believe in something bigger than yourself. When people act as their own gods then it causes nothing but chaos and strife.
That is the problem America. It really is that simple.
I will leave you today with a song from that "Billy Graham" video that those wonderful kids (and adults) in my home town were gracious enough to give me. Maybe if I pass it on it might help just one other person. Pay it forward America.

Media Exploiting Grieving Father: Blames Politicians and NRA for Son’s Death

in Gun Rights, News, Opinion, Videos / by Brandon Walker / on May 25, 2014 at 11:59 am /

By now you have heard of the tragedy that unfolded at the University of California Santa Barbara. With the killing rampage ended with the apparent suicide of the killer, the media immediately launched into the debate of guns and gun laws. The victims weren’t even cold when the media started humming about new legislation that should be implemented. It was a sick situation and a hot topic, and I don’t mean to be callous, but can we let the victims be laid to rest before the media exploits a grieving father who blames guns and the NRA.
We brought you the sickening and frighting mind of a serial killer with the released video entitled “retribution”. It was released and taken to the police weeks before the killer went on his nightmarish rampage. The man was obviously suffering from mental instability and it has been released to the media that he suffered from Asperger’s and treated by several therapists on the California campus. He began his rampage by stabbing three people in his home, then climbed behind the wheel of his BMW, ran over a man on a bike that was on the windshield of the car when he pulled the trigger on his own suicide, and shot at several stationary targets, the cops, and then shot himself. In the aftermath, seven people were dead including the deranged lunatic, and several wounded.
The victims bodies are not even cold when the media arranges a face to face with one of the victim’s fathers reading a prepared statement to the media blaming everything but the problem.
Now, I don’t want to seem cold and callous. My heart truly goes out to this man. No one should loose a son. With that being said, I want to take a look at some of these points.
    1. This did not involve a politician or the NRA. The NRA didn’t shoot your son Mr. Martinez. Nor did they stab three victims in their home. Nor did they cry out to YouTube that they were going to kill random people because girls wouldn’t sleep with them. Nor did (and forgive me for defending these people) Nancy Pelosi, John Bohner, or Dianne Feinstein. It was not a politician or NRA that shot your son. It is very easy for the liberal mindset to blame conservatives. They also need to take a look at the fact that none of these shooters were the “Right Wing Nut-job” they seem to want to think. If we want to go that route (I personally don’t think how you vote had anything to do with it, that it was mentally unstable people) need we remind them that every one of these individuals were LIBERAL?
    2. Yes, I am deeply sorry your son was killed. Gun rights would not have changed the outcome. By California law, the police have a right to seize any weapon that is in the possession of someone deemed incapable of owing a fire arm. He was reported to be suicidal and potentially homicidal weeks before the attack. The police in California have been doing crackdowns on firearms all year. There is no excuse for him to have had a firearm in his possession. Gun registration would not have prevented it; it was more then likely unregistered or registered to someone else. We tend in the heat of tragedy to forget, California has gun registration, gun confiscation, and not far behind Chicago on shear amount of gun laws.
    3. That brings up a valid point. If you wanted to blame someone, why didn’t you blame the police who’s headquarters you gave the read speech in front of? They failed to search the killer’s property. They failed to have the individual placed under observation for his protection. They or the doctors failed to notify the campus that this individual was potentially homicidal. If you want to blame someone, don’t blame the politicians and the NRA, blame the individuals in the building behind you for dereliction of duty.
    4. We have the father blaming gun control. We have the media that went on a long winded diatribe of how this was the handguns fault and how we needed to blame assault rifles again. To all the outrage over an inanimate object that takes 1.5 to 3 pounds of pressure to send trigger back and pin forward making the gun powder explode sending a projectile forward, it has no mind of its own. There are several points to be made here. No matter how many times people try, guns can’t pull their own trigger. AR-15′s are not what was used in this attack, nor were any other semi-automatic rifles. A ban on them would not have made a difference. The handgun or a ban on handguns would not have stopped this. If the gun was registered to the killer, then according to California Law, when he displayed mental anguish excessive to law then police should have confiscated until he could be evaluated and determined no longer a threat to himself or society. California has gun registration, which means he didn’t register the gun, avoided the register, or it was an unregistered handgun. U of C is a gun free zone, which means the sign “you are entering a gun free zone” only read to the deranged individual “please discharge your killing spree here” or he didn’t bother to read the sign, or, and more then likely, specifically chose this area to carry out his crime. The gun didn’t pull its own trigger, a deranged mad man did.
    5. We have all this upheaval over guns. Let me be quite blunt. According to ABC, FOX, NBC, and CNN, this 20 some year old son of a Hollywood Director used several weapons and objects as weapons. He stabbed three individuals in the home before ever getting behind the wheel. While he did drive down the road shooting a gun, he did this while striking a pedestrian and a biker with the BMW. The poor cyclist was still plastered to the windshield when he pulled the trigger ending his own life. Somehow, I do not see people in California, or anywhere else in the United States, going on national television screaming to ban Gensu Knife and BMW commercials. I don’t see a restriction on kitchen cutlery any time in the near future, or Congress trying to pass a “safety knife” law.
    6. Not since Patty Hearst (1970′s Stockholm Syndrome victim) have we had this high of profile individual in the thick of such a tragic situation. Instead of going on a fit about guns, exploiting fathers who have lost their boy, video games, or anything else, how about we focus on the real issue. Mental illness can strike individuals no matter what walk of life. This boy could afford any of the treatments and medications available to the general public, and even some that are not. Yet the son of the Hollywood assistant producer for the Hunger Games still suffered. We are finding some of these drugs used to treat mentally ill individuals have side effects worse then the symptoms. In fact, some of the drugs’ side effects can cause people to do just what this young man did. We need to stop doping up our kids and start focusing on treatment for this ever growing problem. Almost every individual that has been behind one of these mass shootings in recent years have one thing in common. It’s not the video game they play, it isn’t the gun they use, and it isn’t the income bracket. It is the fact that they choose gun free zones and were mentally ill!
I for one am sick of the gun debate and the fact that we take a grieving parent that hasn’t even had time to bury their son or daughter, hand them a Hollywood Script, and exploit an already bad situation by rubbing salt in open wounds for entertainment. This is beyond disgusting behavior from anyone involved in it. If we have to discuss why it happened when the details are still coming in as to what happened, then please, as adults and rational individuals, how about we let grieving families grieve, police do their job, put emotion aside, and have that discussion.
    I’m all ears.
