Why does the CDC own a patent on Ebola 'invention?'

Why does the CDC own a patent on Ebola 'invention?'

(NaturalNews) The U.S. Centers for Disease Control owns a patent on a particular strain of Ebola known as "EboBun." It's patent No. CA2741523A1 and it was awarded in 2010. You can view it here. (Thanks to Natural News readers who found this and brought it to our attention.)

Patent applicants are clearly described on the patent as including:

The Government Of The United States Of America As Represented By The Secretary, Department Of Health & Human Services, Center For Disease Control.

The patent summary says, "The invention provides the isolated human Ebola (hEbola) viruses denoted as Bundibugyo (EboBun) deposited with the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention ("CDC"; Atlanta, Georgia, United States of America) on November 26, 2007 and accorded an accession number 200706291."

It goes on to state, "The present invention is based upon the isolation and identification of a new human Ebola virus species, EboBun. EboBun was isolated from the patients suffering from hemorrhagic fever in a recent outbreak in Uganda."

It's worth noting, by the way, that EboBun is not the same variant currently believed to be circulating in West Africa. Clearly, the CDC needs to expand its patent portfolio to include more strains, and that may very well be why American Ebola victims have been brought to the United States in the first place. Read more below and decide for yourself...

Harvesting Ebola from victims to file patents

From the patent description on the EboBun virus, we know that the U.S. government:

    1) Extracts Ebola viruses from patients.

    2) Claims to have "invented" that virus.

    3) Files for monopoly patent protection on the virus.

To understand why this is happening, you have to first understand what a patent really is and why it exists. A patent is a government-enforced monopoly that is exclusively granted to persons or organizations. It allows that person or organization to exclusively profit from the "invention" or deny others the ability to exploit the invention for their own profit.

It brings up the obvious question here: Why would the U.S. government claim to have "invented" Ebola and then claim an exclusively monopoly over its ownership?

U.S. Government claims exclusive ownership over its "invention" of Ebola

The "SUMMARY OF THE INVENTION" section of the patent document also clearly claims that the U.S. government is claiming "ownership" over all Ebola viruses that share as little as 70% similarity with the Ebola it "invented":

...invention relates to the isolated EboBun virus that morphologically and phylogenetically relates to known members filoviridae... In another aspect, the invention provides an isolated hEbola EboBun virus comprising a nucleic acid molecule comprising a nucleotide sequence selected from the group consisting of: a) a nucleotide sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1; b) a nucleotide sequence that hybridizes to the sequence set forth in SEQ ID NO: 1 under stringent conditions; and c) a nucleotide sequence that has at least 70%, 75%, 80%, 85%, 90%, 95%, 96%, 97%, 98%, or 99% identity to the SEQ ID NO:

    1. In another aspect, the invention provides the complete genomic sequence of the hEbola virus EboBun.

    Ebola vaccines and propagation

The CDC patent goes on to explain it specifically claims patent protection on a method for propagating the Ebola virus in host cells as well as treating infected hosts with vaccines:

In another aspect, the invention provides a method for propagating the hEbola virus in host cells comprising infecting the host cells with the inventive isolated hEbola virus described above, culturing the host cells to allow the virus to multiply, and harvesting the resulting virions.

In another aspect, the invention provides vaccine preparations, comprising the inventive hEbola virus, including recombinant and chimeric forms of the virus, nucleic acid molecules comprised by the virus, or protein subunits of the virus. The invention also provides a vaccine formulation comprising a therapeutically or prophylactically effective amount of the inventive hEbola virus described above, and a pharmaceutically acceptable carrier.

No medical reason to bring Ebola to the United States

This patent may help explain why Ebola victims are being transported to the United States and put under the medical authority of the CDC. These patients are carrying valuable intellectual property assets in the form of Ebola variants, and the Centers for Disease Control clearly desires to expand its patent portfolio by harvesting, studying and potentially patenting new strains or variants.

Dr. Bob Arnot, an infectious disease specialist who spent time on the ground in developing nations saving lives, recently told Judge Jeanine, "There is no medical reason to bring them here, especially when you see how well Dr. Bradley was." (2)

There is, however, an entirely different reason to bring Ebola patients to America: so they can be exploited for medical experiments, military bioweapons harvesting or intellectual property claims.

Surely, medical authorities at Emory University and the CDC are working hard to save the lives of the two patients who have been transported to the U.S. But they are also pursuing something else at the same time: an agenda of isolating, identifying and patenting infectious disease agents for reasons that we can only imagine.

    Only hoping to save lives?

On one hand, it's worth pointing out that the CDC's patent on Ebola is at least partially focused on methods for screening for Ebola and treating Ebola victims with drugs or vaccines. This seems like a worthwhile precaution against an infectious disease that clearly threatens lives.

On the other hand, why the patent? Patenting Ebola seems as odd as trying to patent cancer or diabetes. Why would a government organization claim to have "invented" this infectious disease and then claim a monopoly over its exploitation for commercial use?

Does the CDC hope to collect a royalty on Ebola vaccines? Is it looking to "invent" more variants and patent those too?

Make no mistake that billions of dollars in profits are at stake in all this. Shares of Tekmira surged over 11% last Friday as pressure was placed on the FDA to fast-track Ebola vaccine trials the company has set up. "Health campaigners have started a petition which has already been signed by approximately 15,500 people on change.org pressurizing FDA to approve the drug in the minimum possible time frame," reports BidnessEtc.com. (3)

    Carefully scripted medical theater

With this, we start to see the structure of the elaborate medical theater coming together: A global pandemic panic, a government patent, the importation of Ebola into a major U.S. city, an experimental vaccine, the rise of a little-known pharmaceutical company and a public outcry for the FDA to fast-track the vaccine.

If Act II stays on course, this medical theater might someday involve a "laboratory accident" in a U.S. lab, the "escape" of Ebola into the population, and a mandatory nationwide Ebola vaccination campaign that enriches Tekmira and its investors while positioning the CDC with its virus patents as the "savior of the American people."

Yes, we've heard this music before, but the last time around it was called Swine Flu.

The formula is always the same: create alarm, bring a vaccine to market, then scare governments into buying billions of dollars worth of vaccines they don't need.

Follow The Money – Ebola, Crisis of Opportunity

We have all been watching the unfolding story of ebola and how it is creating concern on a global scale. What if it were merely an attempt to push a new drug to generate millions of dollars for the global elite and the medical industrial complex? What if I told you 122,000 people died from measles in 2012 without so much as a whimper from either the alternative media or the mainstream media?

A few days ago one of the people that I work with ask me what was going on with ebola, as he knows that I operate The Daily Coin, and am a daily contributor at SGT Report. When I explained that we were following, at that time, the latest story of ebola coming to America, he stopped me and gave me the governments typical, tyrannical game-plan - problem, reaction, solution. Let’s look at the ebola “pandemic” from a different perspective.
The cost of measles injections, according to Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, ranges from $19.91 for 10 individual doses to $103.16 for 10 individual doses. The lesser of the two is strictly for measles, and the more costly is for the cocktail version to immunize against measles, mumps, and rubella. At an average cost of $61.54 per dose, and with 145 million doses administered in 2012, we are not talking about a small profit. That is a staggering amount of money.
According to WHO, measles is a bigger problem with virtually the same forms of transmission. The biggest difference - measles are a lot more prevalent, just not in the US, due to vaccinations. Not only are vaccinations a solution, they generate millions of dollars for the medical industrial complex.
    Key facts

    • Measles is one of the leading causes of death among young children, even though a safe and cost-effective vaccine is available.
    • In 2012, there were 122 000 measles deaths globally – about 330 deaths every day or 14 deaths every hour.
    • Measles vaccination resulted in a 78% drop in measles deaths between 2000 and 2012 worldwide.
    • In 2012, about 84% of the world’s children received one dose of measles vaccine by their first birthday through routine health services – up from 72% in 2000.
    • Since 2000, more than 1 billion children in high risk countries were vaccinated against the disease through mass vaccination campaigns ― about 145 million of them in 2012.

    Transmission

The highly contagious virus is spread by coughing and sneezing, close personal contact or direct contact with infected nasal or throat secretions.
With so much death and destruction related to measles you would think the world would be in the same type of hysteria as we are regarding ebola. It should garner some news coverage on a large scale - not a peep. Don’t get me wrong, I recently conducted an interview with leading survivalist, prepper, and author, Tess Pennington, about how to be better prepared for an outbreak of ebola in America. I am as concerned as everyone else. Let’s remove some of the emotion (reaction) and look at what it is happening in a different light.
The current ebola outbreak began in March 2014. Only within the past few weeks has the news really taken hold and has spread like wild-fire across the globe. Why is this happening now, and why the delay regarding an “outbreak” of a highly contagious disease?
Once again, I am just as concerned as everyone else. My family is prepared for this situation - maybe not as well as we should be, but we have made some serious moves, just in case. The news keeps escalating, but the spread of the disease is not growing nearly as fast as the news stories. On August 6, 2014, Zerohedge reported:
The official Ebola death toll is now at 932 with over 1,700 reported cases but as the WHO reports, in the last 48 hours, deaths and cases have exploded (48 and 108 respectively). As the charts below show, this epidemic is going exponential. What is perhaps most worrisome is, while playing down the threat in Nigeria (most especially Lagos – which the CDC Director is “deeply concerned” about), officials have formally asked the US for the experimental Ebola drug, which suggest things are far worse than the 3 deaths reported so far in Nigeria would suggest. Finally, as we warned yesterday, Saudi Arabia is suffering too as the main who was hospitalized yesterday with symptoms has died – the first reported casualty in the Arab world.
On August 1, WHO reported there had been 122 new cases between July 24 and July 27, 80 of which were in Liberia alone.

This is a far cry from 14 deaths an hour for an entire year!!
So, here we are: everyone - and I mean everyone - is talking about ebola, the tragedy, the absolute fear of becoming a pandemic, and everyone is scrambling to cover every nuance of this situation. PROBLEM!!! Everyone is currently whipped into a fear-based state of mind. REACTION!!! Here comes the almost miraculous, NEW, unproven vaccine. SOLUTION!!! Hooray, we are all saved! All we have to do is DEMAND this new wonder drug, and all will be fine.
There have been a few articles that popped up in the past two days regarding the new wonder drug that has been “under development” for the past few years, and now it has a reason for being!! WOW! Whoda thought a new drug for a highly contagious, easily spread disease that gets started in a “third world” country, would be needed - by the ENTIRE GLOBE!!
So, who owns this very timely, necessary wonder drug? It wouldn’t be the US government and one of it’s crony companies would it? Nah, couldn’t be; too simple. Well, according to CNN, Mapp Pharmaceutical, a San Diego based company, just happens to have a military contract, through the National Institutes of Health, to develop an ebola serum.
Tekmira, a Canadian based pharmaceutical company, “was to begin Phase 1 trials with its drug in January. But the FDA recently halted the trial, asking for more information“. [Source] And the winner is? Mapp Pharmaceuticals, a US based company, not some “foreign” company.
We have identified the problem - a highly contagious disease that everyone is aware is spreading. If we weren’t suppose to know (just like in March when it began,) we would not know about it. We have identified the reaction - fear based, emotionally charged news stories on a global scale. The solution? DEMAND a vaccine.
I may be wrong, but it appears, especially in light of what I have learned about measles and the fact that measles are just as deadly, just as contagious, and spread just as easily, the ebola outbreak may be a new business model. If you think that getting super rich off this pandemic is not the one of the end results for these dirtbags, then you are just not cynical enough. ZMapp is owned by MappPharmceuticals, and works in partnership with LeafBio. Neither company is as public as their masters– maybe they could be one of the true giant pharma companies that created these two companies as “farm teams,” to distance themselves from any liabilities, but retain all the profits. Too cynical? Not in today's world. Be sure and do your own research. If you become wealthy - just like the global elite will be getting wealthy - good for you. Just remember to send me a coin or two.

Suspected Ebola cases prompt 30 states and DC to ask for help from CDC

Friday, August 29, 2014 by: Ethan A. Huff, staff writer

(NaturalNews) More than half of the nation, including D.C., is begging the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) for more information about how to spot potential cases of Ebola. According to ABC News, the CDC has received nearly 70 requests since late July from states seeking guidance about whether or not to conduct blood tests on suspected Ebola victims.

A color map published by Breitbart reveals that nearly all of the most populated states in the U.S., including California, Texas, Illinois and New York, have inquired with the CDC about what to look for and how to deal with individuals who might have the viral disease. The CDC has reportedly ruled out the vast majority of these without blood tests, but at least 10 cases have warranted further examination.

Reports indicate that hospitals in 27 states have alerted the CDC about at least 68 potential Ebola cases since July 27. Of these, 58 were declared false alarms, and the remaining 10 had their blood sent in for lab testing. Of these 10, seven samples tested negative for Ebola, according to experts, and the remaining three are "pending." The locations of all the suspected cases remain a secret.

As to why the CDC only tested 10 of the 68 cases, an agency spokeswoman told reporters that there is no reason to believe that these cases are actually Ebola, because the patients involved had not traveled to infected areas, even if they had traveled to countries where Ebola is currently spreading. By simply discarding these cases, claims the CDC, the agency can focus on higher priority cases.

"If somebody had traveled to Guinea and came back and had a fever and has never been to a place where Ebola is transmitted, there's no reason to suspect there's Ebola just because Ebola is circulating in Guinea," claimed CDC spokeswoman Kristen Nordlund, as quoted by ABC News.

Ebola-infected doctor returns to UK after trip to Sierra Leone

Meanwhile, Great Britain is reporting its first official case of Ebola in a doctor who recently returned from a trip to Sierra Leone. William Pooley, a 29-year-old healthcare worker, contracted the supposedly low-risk disease while treating infected patients in the West African nation and is now being treated himself in a special isolation unit at Royal Free Hospital in Hampstead, London.

"We have prepared rigorous plans for this type of situation," stated Professor Sir Bruce Keogh at the hospital, as quoted by The Guardian. "This individual will pose no risk to the public, and only the tiniest risk to those who... come into direct contact with him."

Like similar claims made by officials in the U.S., these empty reassurances have no basis in reality, as the ongoing epidemic proves that Ebola is spreading in ways that were not previously anticipated. Victims are contracting the virus through seemingly distant contact, which suggests that Ebola is spreading via the air, or at least airborne moisture particulates such as those released by coughing or sneezing.

"There are already over 200 health workers who have caught [Ebola] in this outbreak, and 120 have died," wrote one Guardian commenter. "So there is clearly a big risk and it's most likely due to treating and caring for people prior to the condition being diagnosed. ...

"The risk is not from the known infected... It's the unknown infected."

One good reason to file a patent is to prevent someone else from patenting it. When a patent is issued the filer has a great advantage in court over anyone else claiming to have made the invention. If the CDC researchers didn't file a patent and someone else did it would be very expensive for the government to license the patent or fight it in court.

The Gates Foundation is pumping $50 million into an Ebola vaccine that may be forced upon us all if the pandemic arrives on our shores. Beware of forced vaccination mandates with experimental medicines!
