Obama: Show ‘Economic Patriotism,’ Support Immigration Reform

    07.03.2014 | Daily Surge | Sh

President Barack Obama paid a visit Thursday to 1776, a local tech start-up hub, in order to advocate for immigration reform and applaud the tech sector for their contributions to economic growth, CBS News reports.

The start-up 1776 hosts a variety of new and rapidly growing tech companies in Washington, D.C. President Obama’s visit follows a stream of attention from high-profile political figures. Washington Mayor Vincent Gray has repeatedly mentioned the startup hub in many public speeches, and last year 1776 was visited by Queen Rania of Jordan.

“My hope is the American people look at today’s news and understand that in fact we are making strides,” President Obama said to the audience of entrepreneurs. “We have not seen more consistent job growth since the ’90s but we can make even more progress if Congress is willing to work with my administration and to set politics aside at least occasionally, which I know is what the American people are urgently looking for.”

Obama used the event to discuss recent job gains, particularly the announcement Wednesday from the Labor Department that 288,000 nonfarm jobs have been added to the economy in June, surpassing projections. In the “52 straight months of job growth,” the tech sector hasseen tremendous gains.

Obama also used the opportunity to pressure Congress to move forward with policies that signify “economic patriotism,” and touted immigration reform and infrastructure projects as two major examples.
“We can’t fix a broken immigration system that would allow incredibly talented folks who want to start businesses here and create jobs here in the United States, would allow them to stay and make those investments. That’s something that we need Congress to help us on,” Obama added.

A Gallup poll conducted recently which matches with a variety of other independent surveys, however, shows that immigration reform does not have popular support among average Americans.

“In order for us to make real progress, the president must do more than criticize,” said Speaker of the House John Boehner. “From trade to workplace flexibility, there’s no shortage of common ground where he can push his party’s leaders in the Senate to work with us.”

Obama isn't the only one he has many partners in crime working with him, you would think Rand Paul would know better, but..guess not, we need to let him know!!!

Sen. Rand Paul says some helpful things in his oped, "USA BEACON FOR ILLEGAL IMMIGRATION" for Breitbart. But he clearly doesn't understand that the solution to illegal immigration is enforcement -- not "more immigration."

Rand Paul says solution to illegal immigration is more foreign workers.

Paul writes: Thanks to our current system, we have no way to properly accommodate people who want to come to this country to work.

No. The problem is that our current immigration system does not properly accommodate people who are already here (U.S. citizens and legal permanent residents) who want full-time work but can't find any. There are 18 million such persons.

Instead of calling for an immigration policy that incentivizes business to invest in the American workforce, Paul calls for a system that expands legal immigration and our work visa program.

The U.S. already grants 1 million permanent work permits to immigrants ever year, plus an additional 700,000 temporary work permits to foreign guest workers. The idea of increasing these numbers while one in six Americans is on food stamps is beneath a politician who has presidential aspirations.
Whether you are a Paul supporter or not, please leave a comment to point this out.

EXCLUSIVE : USA Beacon for Illegal Immigration

    Reality Check: Growing Immigration Crisis

    Reality Check: Growing Immigration Crisis

I voted no on the Gang of Eight’s recent immigration reform bill for one reason—it did not include border security first.

Any immigration reform plan that does not include border security is not real reform, precisely because any plan that does not increase security insures that we will revisit this problem again in the future.
Right now we have a situation where people are rushing to our southern border because our current policy makes us a beacon for illegal immigration. Our hearts go out to these people, many of whom just want what’s best for themselves and their families.
President Obama now threatens to enact immigration reform by executive fiat. He says he's got his phone and his pen and he will use them. If he takes his royal pen in hand and beckons the world to come across our borders without adequate border security, it will be a disaster for the country, and it will be the death knell for any meaningful bipartisan immigration reform.
Thanks to our current system, we have no way to properly accommodate people who want to come to this country to work. This is a failure of Washington, not the average American and certainly not would-be immigrants.
Our problem now is that we have 12 million illegal immigrants in this country. If steps are not taken to secure our border, 12 million more will come illegally. This is unacceptable. Any plan that encourages more illegal immigration is no plan at all.
But we also shouldn’t leave 12 million people in limbo.
My “Trust But Verify Act” would’ve made immigration reform possible only once Congress voted on the efficiency of our border security every year for five years, completed a double-layered border fence, and created two new national security visa screening programs.
My plan would have also prevented the Obama Administration from trying to create national ID cards. America has never been a “papers please” country, and it never should be. Illegal immigration or any other issue should never trump our personal privacy rights and other individual liberties that have always made our country one of the freest on earth.
My plan would have attached restrictions to federal welfare and federal motor voter money to require states to actively discover and prevent guest workers from receiving welfare or voting.
My amendment would have given us substantive immigration reform that conservative Republicans could’ve also agreed to because it addressed border security first. It was a win-win for all involved.
    Yet, it was defeated 37-61.
While Washington cannot get its act together, I will not stop pursuing much needed reform. We need a system that expands legal immigration and our work visa program. The Gang of Eight bill actually decreased the number of visas for agricultural workers. Any plan that sets worker visas at a level less than what the market demands is a recipe for illegal immigration.
Most conservatives have no problem with legal immigration, but most immigrants do—our current system is far too difficult to navigate.
The fact that it is so difficult for foreign workers to obtain a work visa has been a primary reason illegal immigration has gotten so out of control. I had a plan that would make our visa program finally work. We desperately need a visa program that works.
But the Democrats shot down that idea too.
The current system makes the U.S. a beacon for illegal immigrants, who rush to our borders because they believe nothing will be done. To date, they have been right. Congress continues to sit on its hands, content to repeat the mistakes of the past through horrible legislation—and then points fingers at those of us who do want immigration reform but do not want to make things worse with even worse legislation.
We need more legal immigration and less illegal immigration, but the key to this equation is to make it far easier to immigrate to the United States than it is today.
But it must be done in a responsible way.
Any plan that does not fix our borders first is really no reform at all, just another refusal by Washington to fix the problem.
    It’s time to fix it.

Guess you don't pay too much attention to what is going on in our Country Rand Paul...The key is enforcement. We need our borders secure..Enforce the laws we already have on the books. Your all ignoring them like they don't exist. You don't need to change or tweak our laws you need to enforce them.. What part of entering our Country illegally turns "Illegal "into "Legal"??? Two different words look them up!!! What part of that is not understood by all of you.

Do your job and enforce the laws we have... . Last I looked you did work for the American People. I am sure you all hear us very clearly. Still you continue to ignore us. We have millions in this Country already out of work. And we still have millions come into this Country LEGALLY every year through quota's. and etc. Why are you not stopping the ones coming in here illegally??? Coming into this Country illegally is illegal. You are letting criminals into this Country. We are now being invaded by these illegals, because you have not enforced our laws..and still choose to ignore them.

Again I repeat, a crime is a crime. Sneaking into our Country illegally and unchecked is illegal and it is a crime. Hiring these people is illegal and a crime. What part of that is not understood by you. .Why aren't these law being enforced..Just who do you work for anyways???
