Exclusive: O’Keefe Busts Illegal Voter Scheme to ‘Turn Texas Blue'

"We can change the course of elections .."
SAN ANTONIO, Texas—In an apparent violation of state law, Battleground Texas officials are exploiting legally protected information to turn voters out to the polls as part of the Democratic party's quest to paint the Lone Star State blue, a new undercover video from James O'Keefe reveals. The footage shows Battleground Texas volunteer Jennifer Longoria saying the group uses the phone numbers from voter registration forms in later efforts to boost turnout on election day.

Texas Election Code prohibits the use of, or even the copying of, phone numbers provided by individuals registering to vote.

“Every time we register somebody to vote, we keep their name, address, phone number,” Longoria said.

The video also shows volunteers calling to boost turnout for Wendy Davis's gubernotorial bid.

The new revelations are likely to add to concerns about an apparent culture of data sharing among Democrat-aligned political and nonprofit organizations. For example, a previous O'Keefe expose raised questions about whether campaigns to get people to sign up for Obamacare had secondary political motives.

Everyone needs to watch this and remember that the GOP cannot contest voter fraud. It will take a third party, perhaps one that already exits and is on the ballot, to combat the Democrat's voter fraud schemes.

Texas Tribune Downplays Video Proving Left-wing Voter Fraud in Lone Star State

As predicted by Bryan Preston of the PJ Tatler, the supposedly non-partisan Texas Tribune downplayed the story about the Project Veritas video showing Battleground Texas illegally using voter registration information. How did The Texas Tribune do that? By bizarrely makiing the focus of their deflect story the Texas Secretary of State, rather than the video itself.
Here is Preston's detailed analysis of The Texas Tribune's deflection:

As I noted above, when they have covered previous videos that made Democrats look bad, the Trib neutralized the actual content of the video as much as possible. That in mind, read their story on the latest video. The Tribune handles a video that it cannot avoid covering, with a great deal of tactical awareness of how to underplay the video’s content.

First, they don’t embed the video in their story. They link it, requiring readers to take an extra step to click on the link and then come back to read the rest of their article.

Second, they downplay what the Battleground Texas organizer says in the video. They write all around that content — which is the heart of the story — with quotes from a number of other people, plus hints that James O’Keefe is a bad person. They cap the story off by quoting a Democrat Party lawyer who defends Battleground Texas. What a surprise! And then they finish with a Democrat talking point about voting rates in the state.

Capping all of that, the Trib headlines the piece as blandly as possible — “Battleground Texas Activities Draw Questions.” Yawn.
And the photo. Don't forget the photo on the story that completely misses the point, Bryan:

There is another problem with the Trib’s coverage. The photo atop the story is not a photo of the Battleground Texas organizer, or James O’Keefe, or Wendy Davis. It’s a photo of the Texas secretary of state. She is not really the driver of the video. But by writing her into the lead, the Trib can justify the photo placement, which conveniently moves the most obvious photo choice — a screenshot of the BGTX organizer — off the top, and out of sight altogether.

BREAKING—TEXAS LT. GOVERNOR: INVESTIGATE BATTLEGROUND TEXAS IMMEDIATELY

    Print articleSend a Tip

by BRANDON DARBY 21 Feb 2014, 10:29 AM PDT POST A COMMENT
Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst issued a letter to Secretary of State Nandita Berry today urging her office to immediately turn over all complaints of Battleground Texas’ violations of election law to Attorney General Greg Abbott. The scandal was revealed after Breitbart Texas released the latest James O'Keefe undercover video on what appeared to be a Battleground Texas illegal voter data-mining operation to help elect Wendy Davis.

Breitbart Texas provides Lt. Governor Dewhurst's full letter to the Texas Secretary of State below:

UNREPENTANT BATTLEGROUND TEXAS NOW SUBJECT TO STATE INVESTIGATION

by BRANDON DARBY AND LOGAN CHURCHWELL
    20 Feb 2014

SAN ANTONIO, TX–The most recent James O’Keefe exposereleased on Breitbart Texas showed a Battleground Texas field organizer engaging in a seemingly illegal data mining operation where confidential information from voter registration forms was being collected in an effort to help elect Wendy Davis as governor of Texas. The video has now triggered a process by which an investigation carried by the State of Texas may occur. In an interview with local San Antonio news, Bexar County Election Administrator Jacquelyn Callanen admitted to submitting a report to Texas Secretary of State.

Later the same day, Secretary of State spokesperson Alicia Pierce restated to Breitbart Texas that “The law speaks for itself,” and pushed further -- claiming that James O’Keefe’s video “Spoke for itself as well.”

The Secretary of State’s press office clarified that it was not vested with investigative powers to affirmatively address the matter, however.
Breitbart Texas sought comment from the Texas Attorney General’s office as well–finding they must receive a referral from the Secretary of State or local election administrators to formally begin an investigation, according to an email from an official spokesperson.

Battleground Texas (BGTX) released an unrepentant statement to local media arguing their volunteers were, “patriotically working to get more Texans involved in our democracy,” and that critics of their campaign tactics were “scared of our success.” BGTX offered no direct refutation of the accusations–except to claim they were in full compliance with the law, even though the O’Keefe indicated otherwise.

The Texas Secretary of State’s office pressed the point that the data collection statuteallegedly violated remains in full enforcement. Though this may seem an innocuous statement, recent history of election battles reveal a rather ironic twist in Texas.

The Project Veritas video contends that we are witnessing the tactical rebirth of ACORN through Battleground Texas. However, ACORN’s involvement extends further than ACORN founder Wade Rathke’s recent assistance to allies of Democratic gubernatorial hopeful Wendy Davis.

Prior to the 2012 Election, an ACORN shell organization, Project Vote, joined a number of co-plaintiffs to sue the State of Texas aiming to blunt a collection of election integrity reforms that protected new voters from being abused by non-resident, untrained volunteer registrars. Among their targets in the lawsuit was the very law that Battleground Texas has been exposed in apparently violating. They also took issue with a requirement that made deputy registrars reside in the county which they hoped to organize. Another state prerequisite for individuals wishing to operate voter registration drives be trained by local officials was litigated as well.

Despite the ACORN coalition’s early success on the federal district court level – Texas handily prevailed upon appeal. The 5th Circuit Court addressed the issue of photocopying or transcribing confidential information for third party gain directly:

The Photocopying Provision states that a VDR “may distribute voter registration application forms throughout the county and receive registration applications submitted to the deputy in person”… [T]his provision limits VDRs’ conduct to collecting and delivering completed applications and implicitly precludes photocopying.

Moreover, allowing VDRs indiscriminately to photocopy registration applications places at risk the private information, e.g., social security numbers, they contain, because Steen and counties have limited means to enforce privacy protections against temporary volunteers.

Texas eventually prevailed in court, keeping all new voter protections intact and enforceable. Prior to ACORN litigation, these reforms had been approved by the U.S. Department of Justice under the Voting Rights Act.

BATTLEGROUND TEXAS' JENNIFER LONGORIA EMBRACED BY MICHELLE OBAMA (PHOTO)

    Print articleSend a Tip

    by LEE STRANAHAN
    24 Feb 2014, 1

Breitbart Texas has discovered a photo of Michelle Obama with her arm around Jennifer Longoria, the Battleground Texas organizer who wasexposed bragging about taking confidential voter information off of voter Bexar County voter registration forms. Breitbart Texas broke the scandal by publishing the latest James O'Keefe/Project Veritas undercover video last week.

The photo entitled June, Michelle & I in Pocahontas Iowa was part of Ms. Longoria's public Flickr account. The photo shows then-candidate Barack Obama's wife Michelle posing with a smiling Longoria during the Iowa caucus. Embedded information on Flickr says the photo was taken on December 30, 2007.

Jennifer Longoria has found herself in the middle of a firestorm since the Project Veritas video broke showing Longoria saying that private phone numbers that had been gathered by Battleground Texas as part of registering voters would be retained by the group. Such a use appears to be illegal, although Battleground Texas operatives have fought back against those claims.

Yesterday, Bexar County Election Administrator Jacquelyn Callanen said that Jennifer Longoria was trained and given an oath to protect confidential information from voters. Texas Lieutenant Governor David Dewhurst sent a letter to Secretary of State Nandita Berry saying he was 'outraged' by the report and Texas State Senator Ken Paxton said in a sharply worded letter that he "will not tolerate" the activities shown in the video, saying:

President Obama, his administration, and Battleground Texas have their sights set on the Lone Star State because Texas is an eyesore to the Obama administration because our success stands in complete contrast to Obama's failed policies.

JENNIFER LONGORIA: THE WOMAN IN THE BATTLEGROUND TEXAS VIDEO

    by JAMES O'KEEFE
    24 Feb 2014, 11:07

Meet Jennifer Longoria, a Battleground Texas Field Organizer in San Antonio.

Battleground Texas is an organization founded by Obama’s former national field director Jeremy Bird and is staffed by largely former Obama campaign operatives.

Their goal? To flip Texas to a democratic state in order to win elections not just in 2014, but for years to come.

Longoria is a Deputy Registrar, which means she can sign people up to vote. Empowering people to vote is always a good thing and a principle this country stands on.

What this country doesn’t stand on however is breaking the law to win elections.

Project Veritas caught Longoria on tape copying detailed information off voter registration forms including phone numbers, which is illegal. We didn’t catch this happening just once or twice, but over and over again.

Longoria has been working for Battleground Texas since June of 2013. One has to wonder just how much voter information she’s illegally stolen since then.

Even worse, Longoria holds trainings for others to become Deputy Registrars, undoubtedly teaching others to commit the same crime and steal personal data from Texans.

But why is this data just so important?

Well Longoria said it best, “When you register someone to vote and you let them go the chance of them actually voting is 15%. But if you register them to vote and touch back with them one time that 15% jumps to 60%. That second time you touch base with them it jumps to 75%.”

It’s how President Obama won in 2008 and 2012. High-quality data, that is.

But if a major organization such as Battleground Texas, run by President Obama’s national field director, is illegally obtaining that data, it makes you wonder how President Obama obtained his data.

Lt. Governor David Dewhurst has demanded an investigation into Battleground Texas’ illegal data mining and this isn’t the first-time Project Veritas has caught them in hot water. Almost immediately after Lt. Governer Dewhurst's demand, Texas Attorney General Greg Abbott recused himself and sent the case to be investigated by the Bexar County District Attorney's office.

Perhaps the most shocking however is Battleground Texas’ response, or lack thereof. They aren’t saying much, instead attacking myself--not addressing the illegality of what they are doing.

The thing is, deflection only works for so long.

Battleground Texas will be forced to account for their illegal activity.

Sadly, this certainly isn’t all Project Veritas has caught them doing.
