Hill Republican: Stimulus Gives Cash to Illegals

    http://www.iht.com/articles/ap/2009/01/ ... grants.php

A top Republican congressional aide says the $800 billion-plus economic stimulus measure could steer government checks to illegal immigrants.

Republican officials are concerned that the Democratic-written legislation makes people who came to the United States illegally eligible for tax credits of $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple.

A House-passed version of the bill and one making its way through the Senate both disqualify nonresident aliens from receiving the credits. But neither requires a worker to have a Social Security number to get the credits.

An economic aid measure enacted in February 2008 that sent rebates to most wage earners required that people have valid Social Security numbers in order to get checks.

Of course, the dems want to make it easier for illegals to get wealth redistribution checks. Cold hard cash is a good way to court a new voting block. 4 billion for ACORN, billions in wealth redistribution checks for illegals, etc... And this is only the beginning of Barry's administration.

The Republicans did well to steer completely clear of this bill! And if the Republican Senators are smart they will too! Time for the RINOS to take a walk and the Republican party to cleave to conservative values if they ever want to win again. And that includes NO SUPPORT FOR ILLEGAL ALIENS, ENFORCING OUR IMMIGRATION LAWS FULLY! Get to work trimming the fat gentlemen, let the Dems go down in flames on this one!

We have to make a stink about this. This is unacceptable.

Hill Republican: Stimulus aids illegal immigrants

    The Associated Press
    Thursday, January 29, 2009
WASHINGTON: The $800 billion-plus economic stimulus measure making its way through Congress could steer government checks to illegal immigrants, a top Republican congressional official asserted Thursday.

The legislation, which would send tax credits of $500 per worker and $1,000 per couple, expressly disqualifies nonresident aliens, but it would allow people who don't have Social Security numbers to be eligible for the checks.

Undocumented immigrants who are not eligible for a Social Security number can file tax returns with an alternative number. A House-passed version of the economic recovery bill and one making its way through the Senate would allow anyone with such a number, called an individual taxpayer identification number, to qualify for the tax credits.

A revolt among GOP conservatives to similar provisions of a 2008 economic stimulus bill, which sent rebate checks to most wage earners, forced Democratic congressional leaders to add stricter eligibility requirements. That legislation, enacted in February 2008, required that people have valid Social Security numbers in order to get checks.

The GOP official voiced concerns about the latest economic aid measure on condition of anonymity because he was not authorized to discuss it publicly.

Republicans have already blasted the package for including what they argue is wasteful spending and omitting tax cuts for wealthier people and businesses they say are needed to jump-start the anemic economy.

Not a single Republican voted for an $819 billion version of the plan when it passed the House on Wednesday.

GOP senators arranged a midday news conference to voice their concerns.

Ya, tax rebates even if you haven't paid any taxes. And can they get it just with an ITIN number?

Senate Republicans Say They Have ‘Better Ideas’ on Stimulating Economy

    Thursday, January 29, 2009
    By Susan Jones, Senior Editor

(CNSNews.com) – If every Republican senator opposes President Barack Obama's economic stimulus plan, it probably won't pass, a liberal advocacy group said in a message to supporters on Thursday.

“GOP leaders will get their way—unless we can convince a few Republican senators who are on the fence,â€
