Julian Castro's Name Comes Up as Possible VP for Hillary

Housing and Urban Development Secretary Julian Castro may be eyeing a spot next to former secretary of State Hillary Clinton on the Democrat ticket if she makes a run for president in 2016, some are speculating.

The HUD secretary was speaking at the National Press Club Tuesday when he was asked if he would consider joining Clinton in her run for the White House as the vice presidential nominee or if the Texas native would maybe make a run for governor of the Lone Star State, The Hill reported.

"We'll see what happens. There's no grand plan," Castro said.

Castro delivered a keynote address at the Democratic National Convention in 2012, while he was serving as the Democratic mayor of San Antonio. He along with his twin brother, Texas Rep. Joaquin Castro are both considered rising stars in the party.

"Secretary of State Clinton is obviously an extremely talented person who has made fantastic contributions to our national progress over the last couple of decades," Castro said Tuesday.

"I’m staying out of those politics in this role but I know that she did a great job as secretary of State and I’m confident that if she is elected president, she would do enormous good for the country as well," he added.

The Washington Post has translated his answer as a stump speech, concluding that "absolutely" he would join the former secretary of State, if she does indeed run in 2016.
