Let's send a message to Mitt Romney !

If you have a few minutes, please use the link at the bottom of this post to send an email to Mitt Romney via his website.

Since he is a major Republican primary candidate, tell him something to the effect no flip flopping: the American people demand vigorous enforcement of existing immigration law, and the reduction of illegal immigration through enforcement/attrition. Also, NO "Dream Act," NO $10 million taxpayer funding to the LaRaza ethnic pressure group and NO dangerous Mexican trucks flooding our freeways.

Here is Romney's brief, vague blurb about illegal immigration on his campaign website, followed by a link to send him an email:

    Getting Immigration Right

Immigration has been an important part of our nation's success. The current system, however, puts up a concrete wall to the best and brightest, yet those without skill or education are able to walk across the border. We must reform the current immigration laws so we can secure our borders, implement a mandatory biometrically enabled, tamper proof documentation and employment verification system, and increase legal immigration into America.

Governor Romney: "We need to make America more attractive for legal immigrants -- for citizens -- and less attractive for illegal immigrants. I want to see more immigration in our country, but more legal immigration and less illegal immigration."

    Romney

On November 30, 2005, Mitt Romney, then governor of Massachusetts and presently a Republican presidential candidate. described the immigration reform proposal of President Bush and those of Sen. McCain and Sen. Cornyn as "reasonable proposals". Unlike Gov. Romney, Rep. Tancedo has never considered any of the immigration reform proposals from President Bush or Sen. McCain to be reasonable. All of Sen. McCain's immigration proposals have been amnesty proposals. In November 2005, while Gov. Romney was sharing with the Boston Globe his belief of the reasonableness of proposals that would give millions of illegal aliens with legal status, Rep. Tancredo was fighting for passage of H.R. 4437, a bill that ultimately passed the United States House of Representatives that would have strengthened enforcement of the immigration laws and enhanced border secuirty, but would not have given legal status to any illegal aliens.

On March 16, 2007, a news article concerning Gov. Romney's changing words about Senator McCain's proposals was published in the online edition of The Boston Globe. The article reported the following:

PHOENIX -- When Mitt Romney swooped into the heart of John McCain country this week, he brought a pointed message on illegal immigration: McCain's approach is the wrong one.

    . . .

"McCain-Kennedy isn't the answer," Romney said in a well-received speech to conservatives in Washington this month, describing it as an amnesty plan that would reward people for breaking the law and cost taxpayers millions to provide them benefits.

But that is markedly different from how Romney once characterized McCain's bill, elements of which are receiving new attention in Congress and from President Bush. Indeed, Romney's past comments on illegal immigration suggest his views have hardened as he has ramped up his campaign for the 2008 Republican presidential nomination.

In a November 2005 interview with the Globe, Romney described immigration proposals by McCain and others as "quite different" from amnesty, because they required illegal immigrants to register with the government, work for years, pay taxes, not take public benefits, and pay a fine before applying for citizenship.

"That's very different than amnesty, where you literally say, 'OK, everybody here gets to stay,' " Romney said in the interview. "It's saying you could work your way into becoming a legal resident of the country by working here without taking benefits and then applying and then paying a fine."

Romney did not specifically endorse McCain's bill, saying he had not yet formulated a full position on immigration. But he did speak approvingly of efforts by McCain and Bush to solve the nation's immigration crisis, calling them "reasonable proposals."

Romney also said in the interview that it was not "practical or economic for the country" to deport the estimated 12 million immigrants living in the US illegally. "These people contribute in many cases to our economy and to our society," he said. "In some cases, they do not. But that's a whole group we're going to have to determine how to deal with."

Its all about the money. They need the money from Corporations to be able to run. That is the problem with the Tancredo election. He wants all illegals sent home. Therefore not money for him. I think he should let everyone know this.

On September 19, 2006, WashingtonPost.com published a report from the Associated Press entitled "McCain May Alienate Some Conservatives". The author of the article, Liz Sidoti, reported that Gov. Mitt Romney had made it known that he supported President Bush's immigration position and that those who had broken ranks with President Bush had "made a big mistake". In 2007, flip-flopper Romney says he opposes President Bush's immigration plan. Below is a portion of the article:

Meantime, one of McCain's potential rivals for the GOP nomination, Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, has made it known that he supports the president's immigration position, saying that Republicans who have broken rank with Bush "made a big mistake."

Mitt Romney is off of a whole bunch of peoples lists. At least McCain was honest about wanting to sell us off. There is nothing worse then a flip flopper. Flip Flopping means you can flip flop and anytime. Especially after you won the Presidency.

PLEASE check out how many people are coming into the U.S. every year. WE DO NOT NEED INCREASES IN IMMIGRATION - WE NEED DECREASES!!!!

Slick Mitt is NOT TO BE TRUSTED. He was for "bringing the illegals out of the shadows," until the debates started. WHEN HE SAW THE LAY OF THE LAND, HE SUDDENLY DECIDED AGAINST AMNESTY.

As I said on another thread, WE MUST PICK A CANDIDATE and work for him. We cannot be saying how about Ron Paul, how about Tom Tancredo, how about Duncan Hunter. This is just encouraging SPLITTING THE VOTES.

I really like Tom Tancredo, but as I move through dozens and dozens of blogs, Ron Paul is the name I see......CONSTANTLY. People like his stand on the illegals, but they LOVE his defense of the Constitution.

Alipac and NumbersUSA, along with a few other organizations COULD SHAPE THIS ELECTION. BUT NOT PIECEMEAL for multiple candidates.

I just sent him the message in the first post on this thread. But I agree with those who say he is a flip-flopper and not to be trusted. I sure won't vote for him.

    I have to disagree

    and I'll tell you why

I voted for Mitt for Governor. This state is so BLUE, I can't believe that he survived. One thing I will say for the man. He didn't smear anyone in his campaign, he just said WHAT he intended to do, and HOW he would do it, without any details. Well, he did all those things. And many got pissed at him because they all had the "I didn't think you meant ME" attitude. Which I admit I had for a moment. My boat registration FEE went up, and I got PO'd, but then I thought to myself, "Dont be a hypocrite" pay the money, which I did. Well, he bailed us out of the red. He's honest and a man of his word by all accounts I have witnessed. People are entitled to CHANGE THEIR MINDS, as they become more educated about specific topics, and those topics EVOLVE. Not a person here can say they never changed their mind about SOMETHING.

okay. THAT SAID: I have been on his mailing list for some time. But last week I sent him a letter saying that I "No longer will support the Republican Party because of the way the shamelessly deceived the American Citizens on the cloture vote" and please don't ask me for any more support until the party smartens up.

I still think he's a good man, and I wish he were our Governor again. The POS who took his place is letting illegals RUN this state. He is reversing EVERY good piece of legislation Mitt did for us, including LETTING THE STATE POLICE HAVE THE POWER TO ARREST DETAIN AND PROCESS illegals!!!! Mitt had a special team training for just that. I'll try to attach a link to the newspaper piece I wrote here.

The "best and brightest' should be a designation for those who will not become a serious law enforcement problem of any kind. Great Britain has recently found out that even doctors can be deadly terrorists.

Throughout the professional classes there are many opportunists, wackos and fraudsters. They may be more pleasant to be around than the blue collar folks but their crimes can have an even more serious impact. Many foeigners see the USA as a land of opportunity for financial wrongdoing and fraud. Many so called un-skilled have come here in the past--before social welfare handouts became numerous--just to do their job and live peacefully.

Now I realize everything has shifted. The USA is viewed as a candy store, a veritable land of milk and honey where everyone can get a piece of the money pie--through welfare, through lawsuits, through gullible natives, through Congressional lobbying.

I realize we are going to have to work with what we have, as far as candidates. Lord help us, though, if in trying to improve the quality of immigrants we let in even more shifty,"professional' exploiters and opportunists. There are many of those kind who want to come here. I would rather have a rigorous check of character--and other factors that could contribute to a burden of social welfare--than a standard based on how much money that person figures to "earn" here. As one who has been seriously burned by unscrupulous immigrant business people I can vouch that this is dangerous turf indeed.
