We here in Illinois will be watching the Dick Durbin race. Steve Sauerberg is running against him. Here is his stance on illegal immigration.

    Steve Sauerberg, MD,
    Republican Candidate for US Senate

"We must ensure our nation's security while also respecting the human dignity of all the people in our country." -Steve Sauerberg

    Protect Our Borders
Illegal immigration is one of the biggest challenges we face as a nation. According to most estimates, between 12 and 16 million illegal immigrants are currently in our country and over 700,000 enter America illegally every year.

    1. Secure our borders. We must triple funding for the U.S. border patrol to stop the flow of those entering our country illegally.
    2. No amnesty. I oppose any effort to reward illegal behavior with amnesty or American citizenship without punitive measures. Dick Durbin's amnesty-first approach would cost taxpayers over $2.6 trillion.
    3. Deport illegal aliens who commit felonies when they finish serving their prison sentence.
    4. All legal immigrants must learn to read and write English. We are a melting pot of many cultures bound together by a common language, and success in our schools and our economy depends on being able to communicate by using the same language. Those who immigrate to the United States should understand the importance of our history and civics and respect the values of our democratic society.
    5. Share our vision. Impart the knowledge that America is a land of opportunity and optimism for those pursuing a better life through hard work and hope.

These are all the positions that Dick Durbin has voted in favor of:

    * No Border Fence - No Border Security.
    * Amnesty for Illegal Immigrants
    * Taxpayer-Funded Tuition for Illegal Immigrants
    * Social Security Benefits for Illegal Immigrants
    * ** Dick Durbin was even the prime sponsor of legislation that would reward a convicted criminal and illegal immigrant with amnesty!!

Durbin: Any real chance he can be defeated, or is he so strong that he is a lock to be re-elected?

If Obama is the Democrat presidential candidate and he wins Illinois, do you think that Obama will carry Durbin to victory with him in Illinois ? Thanks.

in the Senate as bill S. 1639 on June 25.[6] On June 26, a motion to proceed passed the Senate, by a margin of 64-35 (under Senate rules it needed 60 votes).[7] A number of amendments to the bill were considered and rejected. Throughout this process there was heavy pressure from talk radio broadcasters and listeners, bloggers, and citizens opposed to the bill; no equivalent popular passion existed on the supporting side despite the majority of Americans supporting a comprehensive approach to immigration reform.[8] So many opponents contacted senators that both the Senate's Internet server and phone system crashed at different times. This is thought to be a result of passion on the opposition side being so strong that instead of just contacting their own senators many resorted to contacting all senators.[9][10] On June 28, the bill failed to get the 60 votes necessary to end debate. The final cloture vote lost 46-53.[11] This effectively ended its chances, and President Bush said he was disappointed at Congress's failure to act on the issue.[12]

Three GOP Senators who voted for cloture are up for reelection in 2008: Larry Craig, Chuck Hagel, and Lindsey Graham.

I thought Craig and Hagel were not running again. Lindsey is facing a June 10 primary in South Carolina against Buddy Witherspoon.

You can contribute as little as one dollar to buddy's campaign.

If Republicans in South Carolina renominate that traitor Graham, it is over.

Senator Mcconnell is up for reelection here in Kentucky tomorrow.(Primary) He will probably win the primary but will face some competition in the fall. After some hesitating he finally voted for closure on the "Comprenhensive Immigration Reform" of last year.Even though he is the Senate minority leader he voted for the wishes of the people of Kentucky and America and against the wishes of his boss, the President. He knows Kentuckians are solid conservatives and against amnesty and "comprenhensive immigration reform" as envisioned by the open borders supporters.

For what it is worth, Thad Cochran (Mississippi) is a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee and he voted "NO" to Feinstein's amendment. Also, the list is not complete. Roger Wicker was appointed by the governor to replace Trent Lott. Wicker is a member of the Senate's version of the HOR Illegal Immigration Caucus. He is running for election to the Senate this November.
