Pete Ricketts, an Omaha businessman, has built a cash advantage going into the race’s final days and is backed by high-profile conservatives like Senator Ted Cruz of Texas and Representative Paul D. U.S. Senate

After a heated primary contest, conservatives claimed victory in Nebraska, where the Senate candidate they preferred won the Republican nomination in a race the Tea Party had made a priority. The nominee, Benjamin E. Sasse — the president of a small college and a former Bush administration official — captured almost half the votes in defeating both of his top challengers, Sid Dinsdale, a wealthy banker, and Shane Osborn, a former state treasurer.
