Media Still Hiding From Obama’s Link to Socialism

Media Still Hiding From Obama’s Link to Socialism
posted on June 5, 2012 by Tad Cronn

Even after three and a half years of President Obama using government money to try to buy control over automobile, alternative energy and other companies; of trying to run the country by executive order instead of constitutional processes; and of using every tool available to try to tax the wealthy and expand the ranks of the government-dependent — even after all of this, the mainstream media are still trying to deny a link between Obama and socialism.

The Associated Press recently sent out a story titled “Is Obama a Socialist?” designed to head off that sort of crazy talk from us wild-eyed fringe conservatives.

There have been other stories recently, as well, denying any connections, in addition to unknown numbers of such articles over the past several years and before Obama was elected.

The fact that such stories even appear in supposedly “serious” publications and websites is remarkable. During the Bush years, nobody seriously considered whether President Bush was a fascist, despite the bazillion or so times he was called that by liberals. That’s because the accusation was patently false.

But calling Obama a socialist has more traction, hence the media efforts to deny such a link.

The stories read like they’re written from the same script. First, denial that he’s a socialist. Second, even the idea puts you in the fringe. Third, even registered Socialist Party members deny Obama’s one of them. Therefore, if you still think Obama’s a socialist, you’re crazy.

Call me crazy, then. It won’t be the first time.

One of our modern weaknesses is not seeing things for what they are. The media magnify this problem, probably due to some lingering devotion to a twisted version of “objectivity.” Journalists tend to say, “Well, so-and-so says he’s ABC, therefore he is.” A duck can call itself a tiger, and in the real world it’s still a duck. But according to the media, it’s a tiger.

Obama denies he’s a socialist. Therefore, he’s not a socialist, according to the media.

This despite nearly everything he’s done in office fitting the socialist mold.

Then there’s the trope about socialists denying Obama is one of them. This backs up the media assertions nicely, especially when they quote people who are clueless enough to try to run for public office under the Socialist Party label and who don’t actually know Obama.

But there was at least one time when some of Obama’s fellows weren’t so shy — or perhaps I should say sly — about acknowledging him.

Back in Chicago in the mid-1990s, the New Party was formed by a group of far-left organizations, including the Democratic Socialists of America and ACORN, with support from the SEIU and the Committees of Correspondence, a branch of the Communist Party USA.

Obama attended a 1995 New Party meeting, seeking their endorsement. The meeting included representatives of the Committees for Correspondence and the Democratic Socialists, according to the DSA publication, New Ground. Obama was running for a vacant state Senate seat formerly held by his boss Alice Palmer.

The New Party at the time was actively seeking to turn local, and ultimately national, politics sharply left, mostly by piggybacking on Democratic Party races. Obama won his 1996 race and invited New Party members to join two of his voter task forces.

The New Party News at the time suggests that Obama himself may have joined the New Party. It reported in its Spring 1996 edition, “New Party members won three other primaries this Spring in Chicago: Barack Obama (State Senate), Michael Chandler (Democratic Party Committee) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary). … ‘These victories prove that small “d” democracy can work,’ said Obama.”

A photo in the same edition shows Obama with New Party members. (See the images below this post.)

Going back even further, to 1993, Obama was a signatory on letters from a group called Progressive Chicago, which was founded by New Party members “to put together an organization strong enough to win: If that means supporting a candidate running as a Democrat, then fine. If that means running our own candidates in aldermanic or state representative races on whatever line that gives them the best chance of winning, fine,” according to a Progressive Chicago pamphlet.

In December 1993, Progressive Chicago sent invitations to its January 1994 meeting to members, including Obama. (See image below.) As a signatory to Progressive Chicago letters, Obama was included with 16 other names, who included several members of the DSA, SEIU and ACORN.

Perhaps it’s too subtle for the mainstream media. There is plenty of evidence that Obama was a member of the Chicago socialist inner circle, but dots do need to be connected. The only thing missing is a membership card with Obama’s name on it — although it’s doubtful the media would acknowledge even that.

What you’ve got in Obama is not a non-socialist, but a socialist who’s at least smart enough to know you still can’t get elected in America by running under the Socialist, capital S, label.

If you are one of the millions of reasonable Americans who can make logical deductions, welcome to the fringe. There are a lot of us here.

The 1996 New Party newsletter called Barack Obama a member.

This 1996 newsletter shows Barack Obama with members of the New Party.

In 1993, Progressive Chicago sent out invitations to its members.

A recent column by an Obama sympathizer attempted to dismiss the idea of the "Socialist" label being associated with Obama. The columnist stated that Obama could not be a socialist because he avoids the government taking ownership of all production facilities which, according to the columnist, is the centerpiece of Socialism. Wrong. Karl Marx stated in the Communist Manifesto that the government should control "the factors of production", thus government ownership of production facilities is the centerpiece of Communism, not Socialism. The centerpiece of Socialism is redistribution of wealth. Where have we heard that before? Other key elements of Socialism include large central government, government central planning for production/distribution (private ownership allowed but the government tells you what, how much and when...ever hear of the soil bank? socialized medicine? CAFE standard for automobiles? Social Security? Medicare? These are all elements of socialism, and Obama wants to add more via rules issued by EPA, et al and Executive Orders. And Obamacare is a classic example of Socialism in action [or inaction depending on your point of view]). Since Obama and his party and their agenda are major advocates of the major elements of Socialism, the all I can say is if the shoe fits wear it. By the way, one of Obama's major endorsements came from the American Communist Party.

This information was posted on this site years ago! If I'm not mistaken, it's in the "Barack Obama Citizenship Questioned" thread. Nothing new to some of us here. Many of us passed this info along to the media and it was ignored, along with tons of other information proving the man unfit to sit in our house. I heard Glenn Beck talking about this on his show this morning and thought to myself, "Really? NOW you're finally talking about it? I sent this to you YEARS ago!!!"

Has Barack Obama been caught in a lie that could become a major issue in the upcoming election?

During the 2008 presidential election campaign, Obama’s camp categorically denied he was ever a member of the New Party, which sought to elect members to public office with the aim of moving the Democratic Party far leftward to ultimately form a new political party with a socialist agenda.

The denial came amid reports of Obama’s participation with the party, including several articles by WND.

WND previously reported on newspaper evidence showing Obama was listed as a member of the New Party in the group’s own literature.

WND also conducted an exclusive interview with Marxist activist Carl Davidson, a founder of the New Party, who recounted Obama’s participation.

In 2010, John Nichols, Washington correspondent for The Nation magazine, recalled speaking with Obama at New Party events in the 1990s.

Aaron Klein’s “Red Army: The Radical Network That Must Be Defeated to Save America” exposes Obama’s presidential agenda

“When we spoke together at New Party events in those days, he was blunt about his desire to move the Democratic Party off the cautious center where Bill Clinton had wedged it,” wrote Nichols in a January 2009 piece published at Progressive.org.

Now, researcher and author Stanley Kurtz, writing at National Review Online today, reports on documentation from the updated records of Illinois ACORN at the Wisconsin Historical Society that “definitively establishes” that Obama was a member of the New Party.

Kurtz reported Obama also signed a “contract” promising to publicly support and associate himself with the New Party while in office.

In 2008, Obama’s Fight the Smears campaign website quoted Carol Harwell, who managed Obama’s 1996 campaign for the Illinois Senate, as stating: “Barack did not solicit or seek the New Party endorsement for state senator in 1995.”

Fight the Smears conceded the New Party did support Obama in 1996 but denied that Obama had ever joined.

According to documents from the Democratic Socialists of America, the New Party worked with ACORN to promote its candidates. ACORN, convicted in massive, nationwide voter fraud cases, was a point of controversy for Obama during his 2008 campaign for president.

Becoming a New Party member requires some effort on behalf of the politician. Candidates must be approved by the party’s political committee and, once approved, must sign a contract mandating they will have a “visible and active relationship” with the party.

If Obama indeed signed the contract, not only would his campaign be caught in a lie but it could prove highly embarrassing for him at a time when he is fighting claims, including from Mitt Romney’s camp, that his policies are socialist.

Also, Obama’s 2012 campaign slogan of “Forward” has been criticized for its use of a historic socialist slogan.

    Socialist goals

The socialist-oriented goals of the New Party were enumerated on its old website.

Among the New Party’s stated objectives were “full employment, a shorter work week and a guaranteed minimum income for all adults; a universal ‘social wage’ to include such basic benefits as health care, child care, vacation time and lifelong access to education and training; a systematic phase-in of comparable worth; and like programs to ensure gender equity.”

The New Party stated it also sought “the democratization of our banking and financial system – including popular election of those charged with public stewardship of our banking system, worker-owner control over their pension assets [and] community-controlled alternative financial institutions.”

Many of the New Party’s founding members were Democratic Socialists of America leaders and members of Committees of Correspondence, a breakaway of the Communist Party USA.

Last month, WND reported on a 1996 print advertisement in a local Chicago newspaper that shows Obama was the speaker at an event sponsored and presented by the Democratic Socialists of America, the DSA.

WND first reported on the event in 2008.

Obama listed as New Party member

While Obama’s campaign in 2008 denied the then–presidential candidate was ever an actual member of the New Party, print copies of the New Party News, the party’s official newspaper, show Obama posing with New Party leaders, listing him as a New Party member and printing quotes from him as a member.

The party’s spring 1996 newspaper boasted: “New Party members won three other primaries this Spring in Chicago: Barack Obama (State Senate), Michael Chandler (Democratic Party Committee) and Patricia Martin (Cook County Judiciary).”

The paper quoted Obama saying, “These victories prove that small ‘d’ democracy can work.”

The newspaper lists other politicians it endorsed who were not members but specifies Obama as a New Party member.

New Ground, the newsletter of Chicago’s Democratic Socialists of America, reported in its July/August 1996 edition that Obama attended a New Party membership meeting April 11, 1996, in which he expressed his gratitude for the group’s support and “encouraged NPers (New Party members) to join in his task forces on voter education and voter registration.”

The New Party, established in 1992, took advantage of what was known as electoral “fusion,” which enabled candidates to run on two tickets simultaneously, attracting voters from both parties. But the New Party disbanded in 1998, one year after fusion was halted by the Supreme Court.

This is still current. As I noted earlier, Obama supporters are snarling against those who call him a socialist, and were writing about it earlier this week (in the Politico, I think) His membership in the New Party was a major issue on the Rush Limbaugh show today. This article is certainly germane to current events.

Newly Found Document Reveals Obama Joined Socialist New Party in 1996
posted on June 7, 2012 by Tad Cronn

    ObamaSocialist

Just two days ago, I wrote to you my readers about President Obama’s link to the socialist New Party in the early and mid-1990s. Documented evidence known since before his election to the Oval Office has always shown that Obama sought and obtained the endorsement of the New Party, and it strongly suggested that he had even joined that radical Left group.

In my column of two days ago, I suggested the only thing missing to clinch the connection was a signed membership card.

Now Stanley Kurtz at World Net Daily has found what is probably the closest we will ever get to such a document. In his column today, Kurtz reprints a section of the minutes from the Jan. 11, 1996, meeting of the New Party’s Chicago Chapter, which reads:

Barack Obama, candidate for State Senate in the 13th Legislative District, gave a statement to the membership and answered questions. He signed the New Party “Candidate Contract” and requested an endorsement from the New Party. He also joined the New Party.

According to Kurtz, the “candidate contract” includes a promise to publicly support the New Party while in office.

This is all important because, of course, Obama and his supporters deny he’s a socialist, the mainstream media deny he’s a socialist, and even the usual socialist representatives trotted out by the media deny he’s a socialist.

The New Party was formed by the Democratic Socialists of America and ACORN, with support from the SEIU and the Committees of Correspondence, a branch of the Communist Party USA.

The stated goal of the New Party was to turn other political parties, mostly the Democratic Party, hard left and created a socialist government in the United States.

In my previous column on this topic, I also mentioned that the media would probably dismiss even something so patently obvious as an Obama New Party membership card. Now, it looks as if we’ll get a chance to see if I’m right.

This is not a case of tentatively connecting dots. It’s a matter of following the flashing neon road signs that lead to Obama’s socialist roots in Chicago.

Check out Kurtz’s piece on World Net Daily for more info. You can read my previous meanderings on the topic here.

Where Did Barack Obama Get His Policies From?
posted on June 8, 2012 by da Tagliare

Tell me if this sounds similar to what Barack Obama has been trying to do since moving into the White House:

“Full employment, a shorter work week and a guaranteed minimum income for all adults; a universal ‘social wage’ to include such basic benefits as health care, child care, vacation time and lifelong access to education and training; a systematic phase-in of comparable worth; and like programs to ensure gender equity.”

“The democratization of our banking and financial system – including popular election of those charged with public stewardship of our banking system, worker-owner control over their pension assets [and] community-controlled alternative financial institutions.”

If your answer is yes, and it should be, would you be surprised to find out that these are the policies or objectives that were listed on the New Party’s website? Who or what is the New Party?

The New Party was started in 1992 as a third party alternative to the two major political parties. Founded by Joel Rogers, a law professor and Daniel Cantor who worked on Jesse Jackson’s 1998 campaign for president, New Party is best described as a social democratic and progressive party. Many of their objectives are what most people would call socialistic in nature.

In the Chicago area, the New Party chapter became heavily involved with ACORN and a young Chicagoan by the name of Barack Obama. During the 2008 campaign, Obama continually denied having any involvement with New Party or ever being a member of the organization, however that may be one of many lies Obama has told in the past four years.

According to a report from WND, a 1996 New Party spring newspaper listed three members that won primaries. The three New Party victors were Patricia Martin who ran for Cook County Judiciary; Michael Chandler who ran for Democratic Party Committee; and Barack Obama who ran for state senate.

Further evidence of Obama’s membership in New Party appeared in a 1996 newsletter that listed him as an attendee at a membership meeting. At the meeting, Obama thanked other members for their support in his efforts to get more people registered to vote.

To become a member of New Party, people had to first be approved and then they had to sign a contract that required them to be active and visibly a part of the party. This means that if in fact Obama was a member as their own literature indicates, that he not only had to be publically associated with New Party, but that he has been lying about his involvement with them for the past four years.

To be honest, it reminds me of the controversy surrounding his birth and birth certificate. Obama keeps denying what others are finding to be documented. In reality, Obama has all of the classic earmarks of a pathological liar – someone who believes their own lies to be the truth regardless of the evidence. Kind of a scary thought for leading the most powerful nation in the world, isn’t it?

Obama’s Socialist Allies Defeated in Wisconsin

    Cliff Kincaid —
    June 6, 2012

About a week after President Obama gave a Medal of Freedom to Dolores Huerta, the honorary chair of Democratic Socialists of America (DSA), the Associated Press (AP) wire service ran a story casting doubt on the claim that Obama himself was a socialist. This is the same news organization which in 2008 carried a story that failied to mention the smoking-gun evidence that Obama’s childhood mentor, Frank Marshall Davis, was a Communist Party member.

If you are suspecting at this point that the AP found Obama not guilty of being a socialist, you would be correct. This kind of whitewash is what we have come to expect from this influential news organization. It is fairly typical of a media that love Obama but don’t want to tell the truth about him or his associates and allies.

The Medal of Freedom happens to be the nation’s highest civilian honor. So Obama’s giving the award to a DSA figure is not an insignificant event. Secretary of Labor Hilda L. Solis issued her own statement describing Huerta as a “mentor, adviser and wonderful friend.”

The White House described Huerta as “a civil rights, workers, and women’s advocate,” ignoring her association with DSA. For an inquisitive media, which mostly don’t exist these days, the natural question is: Is there some reason why the White House would want to avoid mentioning Huerta’s DSA connection?

It could be that Obama wants to avoid the term “socialist,” in the same way that AP protected him from it. It could have something to do with the fact that a former leader of DSA, Kurt Stand, is currently serving a long prison sentence for his 1998 conviction for spying for Communist East Germany and the Soviet Union. The case is old but not forgotten among those who monitor threats to U.S. security. It was a major case of espionage against the United States.

As such, would it raise too many eyebrows for the President to favorably mention an organization that had produced an enemy agent? And would it raise questions as to whether or not the President himself had ever associated with such a group?

All of this demonstrates the fact that the talk about Obama and socialism goes far beyond philosophical or ideological questions about one’s economic ideas. This is not just an academic discussion. The term “socialism” is associated with organizations, some benign but some openly hostile to the United States. Stand received a sentence of 17 years and six months for espionage.

Stand had two criminal associates—his wife, Theresa Squillacote, who had worked at the Department of Defense as an attorney with high-level security clearances, and James Clark, a private investigator who at one time had a secret Department of Defense clearance. An official summary of the case from the Office of the Secretary of Defense & Defense Intelligence Agency is interesting and notes that their radical days began in—of all places—Wisconsin. It says, “Clark, Squillacote, and Stand attended the University of Wisconsin in the 1970s where they were affiliated with leftist groups, specifically the Progressive Student Forum and the Young Workers Liberation League, the youth arm of the Communist Party U.S.”

Stand is also described by the U.S. as a “regional labor representative.” There is much more to this affiliation. The great journalist, Eric Breindel, had written about the case, noting that Kurt Stand became a left-wing labor activist who’d helped John Sweeney unseat AFL-CIO chief Lane Kirkland, a staunch anti-communist. Sweeney was a member of DSA as well. We have pointed out that when John Sweeney became president of the AFL-CIO, the communists and their fellow travelers were officially welcomed in. He hired veterans of the Venceremos Brigades such as Karen Nussbaum and Karen Ackerman. These were the groups of radical young people who had gone to Communist Cuba for indoctrination sessions back in the 1970s. Some went for training in guerrilla warfare. The trips were arranged by Bernardine Dohrn of the terrorist Weather Underground.

The AP story by David Crary about Obama and socialism didn’t examine any of that. Instead, he began by noting the questionable claim by some conservatives that the “Forward” slogan of President Barack Obama’s re-election campaign has a deliberate socialist connotation. Crary was correct to question this assertion. Indeed, Republican Governor Scott Walker had used the same slogan, which was visible on the podium during his victory speech on Tuesday night, to signify his campaign of defeating liberal policies in Wisconsin. “Moving Wisconsin Forward,” with “Forward” in big letters, was clearly seen on Walker’s podium.

At the time of the controversy over Obama’s use of the term, Professor Paul Kengor said he was inclined to think that “Forward” is a “left-wing platitude” that simply shows up regularly on the political left. On the other hand, he said that Obama and his adviser David Axelrod are geniuses at coming up with words and phrases that seem vague and benign to the larger population “but which resonate with a hard left that understands the deeper meaning completely.”

Since Scott Walker is not a closet socialist and cannot be considered to be under the sway of David Axelrod, those interested in Obama’s socialist roots have to look elsewhere for evidence of the charge. The AP’s Crary decided to look at the Socialist Party, not the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA). These are two separate organizations. Indeed, Crary never mentioned DSA at all, a major flaw in his lengthy article. The DSA is the key to understanding Obama.

If Crary had done any elementary research, he would have soon discovered Obama’s long-standing relationship with the DSA. We wrote about this in a column more than four years ago entitled, “Obama’s International Socialist Connections.” We noted, “Obama’s socialist backing goes back at least to 1996, when he received the endorsement of the Chicago branch of the Democratic Socialists of America (DSA) for an Illinois state senate seat. Later, the Chicago DSA newsletter reported that Obama, as a state senator, showed up to eulogize Saul Mendelson, one of the ‘champions’ of ‘Chicago’s democratic left’ and a long-time socialist activist.”

Researcher Trevor Loudon uncovered more evidence of this relationship, recently reproducing an advertisement that ran in the Hyde Park Herald in 1996, which listed Obama on a panel sponsored by the Chicago Democratic Socialists of America, University of Chicago Democrats, and University of Chicago DSA.

In another column, we explained that “DSA describes itself as the largest socialist organization in the United States and the principal U.S. affiliate of the Socialist International. The Socialist International (SI) has what is called ‘consultative status’ with the United Nations. In other words, it works hand-in-glove with the world body.” The Socialist Party of Francois Hollande, the new Socialist president of France, is a member of the SI.

None of this, of course, made it into the AP story casting doubt on Obama’s socialist credentials.

For their own reasons, the DSA wants to keep a distance between their organization and Obama. “Obama is no socialist, but we are” was a banner hanging outside the DSA’s national convention, held November 11-13, 2011, in the Washington, D.C. area. This was done mainly for show, in order to push Obama in a more “progressive” direction.

Discussions at the conference included how socialists can work inside the Democratic Party. I attended the conference and heard prominent “progressive” writer and activist John Nichols say that the progressive movement was on the move, citing Big Labor’s organizing efforts in Wisconsin and several states, and predicting that the 2012 elections would continue this process of revolutionary change.

That was before Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker put the brakes on the revolution in Wisconsin. Nichols’s new book, Uprising: How Wisconsin Renewed the Politics of Protest, from Madison to Wall Street doesn’t look so prophetic or like much of a “blueprint for progressives” any more.

Obama was clever not to set foot in Wisconsin, in order to keep his distance from the far-left and their losing campaign, but it remains to be seen whether he and his media and labor union allies can keep the lid on his numerous socialist and communist connections.
