    It’s a Banned Ol’ Flag

November 16, 2010 by Ben Crystal
    It’s a Banned Ol’ Flag

The Flag of the United States. The Stars and Stripes. The emblem of the land we love. It’s adornment, apparel, even automotive appliqué. As the avatar of American liberty, it’s deservedly revered. As the embodiment of American eminence, it’s unfortunately reviled.

While most of our hearts bleed true for the Red, White and Blue, some of the more puerile pinheads on the Left consider Ol’ Glory a punch line. They sully it, stomp on it, even set it on fire; all the while wrapping themselves in the very protections it epitomizes.

Last week the flag took on a new role for one 13-year-old in Denair, Calif.: Scarlet Letter. Cody Alicea is a student at Denair Middle School. Cody proudly displayed the flag on his bicycle in homage to his grandfather’s service in the military. Then, three days before Veterans Day, Stanislaus County, Calif. School District officials put an abrupt stop to Cody’s patriotic expressions. They demanded he remove the flag from his bike.

Allegedly, the flag was drawing complaints from some of Cody’s peers and fellow teachers’ union victims. According to Superintendent Edward Parraz, the mere sight of Cody’s flag-festooned five-speed was racially inflammatory.

"Our Hispanic, you know, kids will, you know, bring their Mexican flags and they’ll display it, and then of course the kids would do the American flag situation, and it does cause kind of a racial tension which we don’t really want… We want them to appreciate the cultures."

So, the Mexican kids are displaying the flag of an entirely different country (for now, anyway); and the Stanislaus County School Superintendent is concerned about their sensitivities should someone display the flag of the country in which they’re living? It’s been said before, but it bears repetition: If it’s the dumbest thing you’ve heard all week:

    1. Liberals—especially teachers’ unions—are involved.
    2. It’s happening in California.

Parraz went on to describe “racial tensions,â€

School officials did squeak out a weak claim that their primary concern was to keep Cody safe. From whom: Paco? Jorge? Presidente de México Calderón? If the Stars and Stripes incites violence, shouldn’t the Stanislaus School System have cracked down on the potential offenders, or at least taken away their case of Dos Equis?
Don't you know they are not allowed to “crack downâ€

STANISLAUS COUNTY, Calif. (KGO) -- A 13-year-old Central Valley boy who was told not to fly an American flag on his bike got an unusual ride to school Monday morning.

Cody Alicea rode with dozens of veterans, some from out of state, as he biked to Denair Middle School. They all carried American flags on their bikes to show their support.

Last week, school officials told Cody he should not put the stars and stripes on his bike because some students were offended. The school superintendent has apologized.

"The bottom line, I am the superintendant of DUSD. This shouldn't have happened," Superintendent Ed Parraz said.

"They said some students were complaining. It was Veterans week so I was kind of confused. I'm flying your country's flag to support veterans and on Veterans week they told me I couldn't fly it," Cody said.

Cody says he put the flag on his bike a couple of months ago and never had a problem until recently.

The school district is now facing a lawsuit from a civil liberties group.

The Patriot Guard Riders escorted Cody. They are not all veterans, just all Americans. There were also just riders riding for the cause. I belong to the PGR. We go to funerals of our fallen veterans and other military funerals if invited. It was started because families that lost loved ones in the war were attacked verbally and with signs saying they were glad the veteran was killed. I'm sure you've heard of these hate groups. The PGR was started to protect the families from these idiots. We stand between the family and the idiots. They are hate filled and vile. It is Americans taking care of Americans. You don't have to have a motorcycle to do this. You can go in trucks, cars or any other way you can get there. It's a matter of standing up for what is right. Cody was right. Wish I could of made that ride. When I see the commitment in many Americans to their country it gives me chills and brings tears to my eyes.
And anyone that was upset, po'd. angry or insulted by what they were trying to do to Cody is a true American. And I'd like to thank anyone and everyone that felt the pain of being told that flying our flag was wrong.
