Thread: Spanish prayer starts 4th of July Celebration in Hyrum, UT

This is America not a nation south of the border. A mexican flag was unfurled and flown during the entire parade. Have they now hijacked our national holiday? Seems so....

HYRUM — A closing prayer given in Spanish at the city’s Fourth of July patriotic program has caused quite a stir, with some valley residents expressing outrage and others offering support for city leaders.

Letters on both sides of the controversy have dominated The Herald Journal’s editorial page for most of the week.

Hyrum Councilwoman Stephanie Miller, who was in charge of coordinating the city’s Independence Day activities, noted the prayer was delivered in Spanish and translated in English.

Asked if she was surprised at the public’s reaction, Miller responded, “I am. But, you know, I also realize that it’s offended some people, and I have told them that I apologize that it offended them. That was not the intention at all. I would never want to do anything to disrespect our veterans or our country.â€
