Steve King asks: Will Clinton be ‘on her meds or off her meds’ for debate?

Rep. Steve King (R-Iowa) is wondering if Hillary Clinton will be on medication during Monday night’s presidential debate against Donald Trump.

The conservative lawmaker previously backed Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas) in the GOP presidential primaries before ultimately endorsing Trump, the party's presidential nominee. His tweet comes hours before Clinton, the Democratic nominee, and Trump clash at Hofstra University in Hempstead, N.Y., in the first of three contests.

Monday’s hotly anticipated encounter is expected to shatter past debate viewership records, with experts predicting an audience of more than 100 million people.

The event is critical for both Clinton and Trump as recent polls show a tightening White House race at both the state and national levels.

Clinton leads Trump by about 2 points nationwide, according to the latest RealClearPolitics average of polls.

Trump has repeatedly accused Clinton of lacking the physical stamina for the Oval Office.

Her health became a campaign issue earlier this month when Clinton nearly collapsed following a 9/11 memorial ceremony.

Clinton’s doctor then announced the Democratic presidential nominee had been diagnosed with pneumonia two days before the incident.

Trump’s surrogates have floated several conspiracy theories concerning Clinton’s overall mental and physical health.

Spokeswoman Katrina Pierson, for example, claimed last month that Clinton suffers from a disorder caused by brain damage that impairs her communication.
