We need you to save our beloved country

    The Intelligencer

CNN recently reported the U.S. Chamber of Commerce will be doing everything it can to move comprehensive immigration reform through Congress this year.

Thomas J. Donohue, president and CEO of the chamber, said, “We’re determined to make 2014 the year that immigration reform is finally enacted. The chamber will pull out all the stops — through grass-roots lobbying, communications, politics and partnerships with unions, faith organizations, law enforcement and others — to get it done....”

Is Mr. Donohue’s U.S. Chamber of Commerce now so powerful he and his allies can determine if and when our immigration laws are reformed and enacted? What has happened to the power of the people? Are our legislators so intimidated their votes are cast for those from whom they receive the most pressure or money? What about the American people who have no lobbyists, who are not connected to the unions and who do not have any organizations to finance them? Do we now have no representation in our country?

Pinal County, Ariz., Sheriff Paul Babeu recently asked, “When does it become enough for our own elected leaders to put American citizens and our rights and our own safety first, rather than putting their efforts into pushing for green cards and amnesty for 11 to 20 million illegals?”

Our immigration laws don’t need to be reformed; they need to be enforced. Do any of our legislators honestly believe a new set of immigration laws would be vigorously enforced, or enforced at all?

We have the NSA mining data on all Americans in order to supposedly protect us from terrorists. (Is it too conspiratorial to believe some data may have been deliberately collected on our legislators, and even on our justices, thereby compromising them into voting a certain way?) If we are to believe we are being protected from terrorists, why is our Southern border wide open?

Government agencies allow illegal aliens to openly travel around this nation; some states are now giving them driver’s licenses, in-state tuition, etc. We are told we must bring these people out of the shadows. Illegal aliens have blatantly blocked traffic in front of Immigration and Customs Enforcement offices. They have tried to stop buses from deporting aliens. They have had sit-ins at government offices. They have carried their country’s flag while making demands for recognition and amnesty in our country. They are hostile, demanding and very visible. There is no need to bring them out of the imaginary shadows.

When the Senate immigration bill was being debated, Sen. Chuck Grassley, R-Iowa, offered an amendment that would have required illegal aliens seeking legalization to disclose all the names and Social Security numbers they had ever used. Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y., objected to Grassley’s amendment, saying, “I don’t see how, when you’ve lived here 10 years and you’ve had many different identities, many different numbers, you’re going to remember them all.” Can you imagine trying to legalize individuals when we have no idea who they really are or where they came from?

Granting the prized jewel of citizenship to any interloper who demands it would be an act of national suicide. We must be as vocal and demanding as the invaders and their advocates. Call your members of Congress and tell them to enforce our current immigration laws.
