Local, state and federal authorities seized about 2 pounds of what they believe to be uncut methamphetamine at a rural Cherokee County home Friday.

Law enforcement personnel armed with a search warrant arrested Rodolfo Sanchez, 44, and Elizabeth Valdivia, 30. Agents participating in the raid said the seizure made a substantial dent in the supply line for crystal methamphetamine trafficking levels in the area.

The search warrant stemmed from an investigation by the District 27 Drug Task Force, Cherokee County Sheriff’s Office, Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives and Tahlequah police. Three firearms were also seized with the drugs.

Valdivia and Sanchez were booked into the Cherokee County Detention Center Friday for trafficking a controlled drug, possession of a firearm in the commission of a felony, and possession of paraphernalia.

A DTF spokesman said investigations of this magnitude require dedication and determination from all agencies involved. Officers often put in long hours on top of their normal duties to conduct such a probe.

He also said the success of such an investigation requires tight security among the agencies and a great deal of manpower because each officer often has a specialized task.
