More than 5,340 pounds of marijuana was seized Monday in two separate inspections at the Nogales port of entry, according to a U.S. Customs and Border Protection news release.

Customs and Border Protection officers confiscated the first load of marijuana Monday afternoon after noticing discrepancies in an x-ray image of a rail car.

The officers found 593 pounds of marijuana when they opened the rail car. The load had an estimated value of about $504,000.

Later officers found 4,748 pounds of marijuana in a tractor-trailer carrying squash. Officers also noticed discrepancies while they were screening the truck with an x-ray system.

The load was mixed in with the squash and had an estimated value of $4 million.
