    In-state tuition for illegal immigrants?

Supporters say it would help economy, foes say it’s bad idea

Despite a similar bill being killed in 2009 Ń and Republicans now having more power in the Legislature Ń a freshman lawmaker is hopeful she can help pass a controversial measure to grant in-state tuition to illegal immigrants.

Sen. Angela Giron, D-Pueblo, is planning to introduce the in-state tuition bill later this month along with Sen. Michael Johnston, D-Denver. A 2009 attempt by Sen. Chris Romer, D-Denver, to pass a bill granting in-state tuition to illegal immigrants met fierce opposition from Republicans and was killed.

but the lawmaker promised it would not cost one taxpayer dollar.
    What a comedian!

This higher education system needs to get a reality check and understand that growth must be managed at a legal and natural market rate, and quit trying to inflate, or cover their butts by whatever manner they see fit, including trying to rob the taxpayers.

This incessant search for warm bodies to fill seats to cover expenses and future obligations is gonna bite hard eventually. JMO

    co instate tuition for illegals

This has no chance in passing but we will still be at the capitol to make sure of it.

The money our state gives to higher ed is about 550 m but its the only unrestricted money we have. The budget that starts in July is another 1 b short.

Why does everyone keep trying to give breaks and scholarships to people who CANNOT legally put their education to use upon graduation????? Please, someone explain this to me! And in addition, the new American graduates are having a heck of a time finding work right no. So I can't even imagine what getting a job would be like for new American graduates if this were not the case.

Couldnt tell you. We were at a meeting last night with somenoe from the Bell Policy Centre whihc is a non paritan group that deals with alot of fiscal issues. They are coming out in favour of this as it is not going to cost the state money according to them.

Have yet to figure that one out when more spots for CO kids means less for out of state who pay alot more in tuition. Not that we are saying illegals are CO kids as they arent but this is what we were told by him.

AGAIN, IN-State tuition for ILLEGALS will replace innocent American students in the limited seats in college at a time when over 10% of Americans are out of work and their families are struggling to train for new jobs and pay for college. The in-state tuition legislation violates a 1996 Federal law. Why would you support in-state tuition for the ILLEGALS that will attract more ILLEGALS to the state and America and train ILLEGALS for jobs it is illegal for them to have. These students should go back to their HOME countries and stop draining our resources that could be used to assist United States Citizens and not the ILLEGALS! Just follow the money! The Elitist Politicians and their Elitist Political Contributors want to continue to have United States Citizens pay the benefits for their ILLEGALS while they continue to have their BOTTOM LINES increased at the taxpayer's expense!
