GOP Senator John Ensign of Nevada will announce today that he won't seek re-election, the Associated Press and CNN report.
Ensign ran into political trouble in 2009 when he had an affair with Cynthia Hampton, a campaign aide whose husband, Doug Hampton, had been Ensign's deputy chief of staff.
Ensign's parents paid the Hamptons and their two children $96,000, and Ensign allegedly assisted Doug Hampton in finding alternate employment in a move that may have violated Senate rules, the Las Vegas Sun reports.
