32 Pounds Of Heroin Found Hidden In Van

An Orlando man was arrested in Maryland on Wednesday after a state trooper found more than 30 pounds of heroin hidden in his van during a traffic stop, authorities said.

Jose M. Gomez, 41, was charged with importation of heroin, possession of heroin with the intent to distribute, and possession of heroin after he was stopped on Interstate 95 in Cecil County.

Gomez was released to Drug Enforcement Administration officials.

According to Maryland state troopers, Gomez was speeding in a 2003 Dodge Caravan at about 9 a.m., so he was pulled over.

A K-9 was called to the van, and a search led to the discovery of a hidden compartment built into the engine firewall that contained 32 pounds of heroin wrapped in plastic, authorities said.

The heroin has an estimated street value of $4.4 million, troopers said.

No mention of legal status....importation of heroin?
