Resolution to Censure 11 Republican Representatives for Voting in Opposition to the NC GOP Platform
Whereas, NC State Republican Representatives Harry Warren, Brian Brown, Jeff Collins, Jonathan Jordan, and Larry Yarborough have sponsored bill HB 328 entitled the Highway Safety/Citizens Protection Act , and Republican lawmakers Paul Stam, Charles Jeter, Jay Adams, Bob Steinberg, Susan Martin, and Nelson Dollar have voted with these bill sponsors to support the illegal alien drivers licenses/permits provision in this bill; and
Whereas, HB 328, Part VI, Section 6 would provide many illegal immigrants with a “limited permit” that would act as a defacto drivers license for illegal immigrants; and
Whereas, on June 2, 2015, these Republican lawmakers worked with and voted with Democrats on the NC House Finance Committee to defeat an amendment which would have removed the drivers license/permit section from HB 328; and
Whereas, HB 328 Part VI, violates the 2014 NC GOP Platform as stated in Article V, Section 7, “We support the issuance of a driver’s license or state identification card only to those who are lawfully present;” and
Whereas, Rasmussen national polling found in their 2007 survey that 77% of American oppose licenses for illegal immigrants, and found in their 2014 polling that 83% of Americans believe people should prove they are legally in the United States before being able to receive any taxpayer benefits; and 66% of voters in Oregon recently rejected licenses for illegal immigrants by voting down Measure 88; and
Whereas, legislation such as HB 328 will likely cause a massive rift in the Republican Party of North Carolina, stimulating numerous contentious and expensive primary battles similar to the 2014 contest between defeated Congressman Eric Cantor and challenger Dave Brat; and
Whereas, HB 328 will greatly damage the reputation of the Republican Party with North Carolina voters and taxpayers; now
Therefore let it be resolved to censure Republican Representatives Harry Warren, Brian Brown, Jeff Collins, Jonathan Jordan, Nelson Dollar, Larry Yarborough, Paul Stam, Charles Jeter, Bob Steinberg, Susan Martin, and Jay Adams for violating the NC GOP platform by voting for drivers licenses/permits for immigrants here unlawfully.
