Calderon Protests US Crackdown on Immigrants

Reuters: Mexican President Felipe Calderon accused the United States on Sunday of stepping up persecution and abuse of undocumented Mexican workers with a crackdown on illegal immigrants.

The Bush administration is increasing scrutiny and imposing heftier fines on U.S. businesses that employ illegal workers, after deporting a record number of illegal immigrants in 2006.

"I want to express again an energetic protest at the unilateral measures taken by the U.S. Congress and government which exacerbate the persecution and abusive treatment of undocumented Mexican workers," Calderon said in his state of the union speech.

Mexico was deeply disappointed at the U.S. Congress' failure to pass a comprehensive overhaul of immigration laws in June despite heavy lobbying by the Bush administration. It is also upset at the United States for building a security fence on parts of the border to keep illegal immigrants out.

"The Mexican government will continue to insist firmly ... on the need for an integral immigration reform and the categorical rejection of the building of a wall on our common border," Calderon said to raucous applause.

U.S. employers who ignore immigration laws will face an increased likelihood of criminal charges and 25 percent higher penalties.

The new enforcement effort, announced in August, could create headaches for U.S. farms, restaurants, construction companies and other businesses that rely on low-skilled immigrant workers.

Some 12 million illegal immigrants live in the shadows in the United States. Last year, Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents deported 183,431 people amid stepped up raids on workplaces and homes nationwide.

Calderon, a conservative, last week met Elvira Arellano, 32, an undocumented Mexican who became famous among pro-immigration activists for defying deportation orders and claiming sanctuary in a Chicago church for a year.

In a meeting in his Los Pinos residence, he promised to help Arellano obtain a visa for the United States.

Calderon, who took office last December, had to give his annual state of the nation speech to ministers, business leaders and other dignitaries on Sunday after canceling plans to deliver it in Congress on Saturday because of protests by leftist lawmakers.

All the Mexican President is doing is Bitching

Why doesn't Mexico start educating their children, and teach them English, and why doesn't the government do something about the poverty there. They don't a damn thing except try and tell us what we can or can't do with illegal aliens in our country.

Calderone doesn't believe that American Citizens have any RIGHT to insist that people come to our country LEGALLY.

Just WHO does he think he is?? Does this guy think he's OUR president??

Well, with half of his country in our country ILLEGALLY, it's no wonder he might think that.

He's gotten away with this much and now he thinks he's going to order US around.

    Not quite, Calderone.

For a second I thought Calderone might be a little better than Foxy Boy.

Was I ever wrong about that !

"persecution and abusive treatment of undocumented Mexican workers,"

But the abusive treatment of American citizens and LEGAL IMMIGRANTS by ILLEGAL ALIENS (murder, DUI manslaughter, rape, sexual abuse of children, etc, etc, etc,) is OK!!!!!

"In a meeting in his Los Pinos residence, he promised to help Arellano obtain a visa for the United States."

How does a convicted felon deported twice deserve a visa????

Keep your nose out of our business Calderon. You are as worthless as hind t--- on a boar hog!!!

    So Calderon 'protests.'
Can you imagine us having a president that would 'protest' anything Mexico does?
Calderon has no place to criticize when it's well know how corrupt his government is. Amazing!

Heck no, and this one is so embarrassing the way he allows other countries, PRIMARILY Mexico, of course, to walk all over us.

Well, we aren't going to stand up for him anymore either, ever again.

We should invite Hugo Chavez back and tell him: "Say whatever you feel like saying, "Mr. Chavez"....no better yet.....we should all refer to him as "President Chavez".

Then no American should say a thing. Just laugh and say, "In America, President Chavez has a RIGHT to say whatever he wants."

That's how I feel about it!!

That's how this traitor in the White House treats us.

We should treat him the same way.

    It's called, "Mututal Disrespect".

    Smoke and mirrors.

In the short run, he doesn't want his felony criminals back.

In the long run, the border goes away anyway when the NAU takes over. He wants the will of mexico to dominate the NAU (as it will). By weakening the US (flooding us with criminals), he envisions becoming president (or dictator) of the NAU (unless Hillary beats him to it).

    The White Horse

What part of "We don't owe our jobs to India" are you unable to understand, Senator?
