NORTH CAROLINA

FORSYTH COUNTY

RESOLUTION by the Executive Committee of the Forsyth County Republican Party

WHEREAS, North Carolina has welcomed people of all races, religions, ethnicity and socio-economic classes who enter this state legally and derives its greatness from the contributions of the many races and ethnic groups that compose its citizenry; and

WHEREAS, the federal government of the United States is responsible for establishing agencies, providing them with adequate funding and enacting and enforcing federal laws governing lawful entry into the United States in order to protect the sovereignty and resources of the United States for the enjoyment and use of its citizens and those persons in the United States lawfully; and

WHEREAS, the federal government has failed in several significant ways to fulfill this duty; and

WHEREAS, The Illegal Immigration Reform Act, effective September 30, 1996, added Section 287(g) which authorizes the Secretary of the United States Department of Homeland Security (DHS) to enter into partnerships with state and local law enforcement agencies; and

WHEREAS, North Carolina Senator Elizabeth Dole has been promoting and pledging her support to all agencies wishing to partner in the 287(g) program; and

WHEREAS, North Carolinians are finally waking up to the crisis facing our state, as a result of the federal government’s failure to take appropriate action to protect and control the borders of the United States; and

WHEREAS, many North Carolinians are now demanding that the federal government, as well as their state and local governments and law enforcement agencies, immediately take whatever steps are necessary to address this serious problem.

BE IT RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of Forsyth County GOP (FCGOP) hereby strongly urges all levels of government in North Carolina to make formal pleas to all levels of the federal government, to take immediate action to adequately fund the operations of the United States Immigration and Customs Enforcement Agency ("ICE") to:

Provide all North Carolina law enforcement agencies desiring to participate in the ICE 287(g) Program with prompt approval of their program applications and promptly provide approved agencies with necessary ICE training and on-going support;

BE IT FURTHER RESOLVED, that the Executive Committee of the FCGOP strongly urges all levels of North Carolina state and local governments to enact all laws, regulations and ordinances necessary to make it clear that no area of North Carolina or Forsyth County will serve as a sanctuary for illegal immigrants.
