Contact Your Representative to Help Move H.R. 1228 to the Floor for a Vote!

Dear xxx xxxx,

Last month, I emailed you in support of Senator Inhofe's National Language Act, S.991. It was the first step in our campaign to make English the official language of the United States.

And today I am asking you to help English First take the next major step by supporting Congressman Peter King's H.R.1228, the bill that repeals former President Clinton's Executive Order 13166.

These two bills, one in the House and one in the Senate, will do it all:

* They make English the official language of the United States;

* They eliminate the federal mandate that has forced government to squander billions on an effort to make America multilingual; and,

* They pave the way to reunite all Americans behind our common language, English, that has served our nation well for more than 200 years.

If there were ever a time when the American people needed to be united, it is now!

With our economy in terrible trouble, with conflicts raging throughout the world; and with confidence in government at an all-time low, Americans need to pull together and speak with one voice that we, the people, expect our elected officials to start working for the best interests of America - not Wall Street, not the multinational corporations, not the bankers or the insurance companies, and, especially, not the narrow special interest groups who would divide the American people, using language as a wedge.

Clearly, a nation united by a common language is stronger that a nation divided by language where people cannot understand each other. Multiple languages create problems in the workplace; in government; in schools; in every aspect of living. Without a common language, there is chaos.

As a supporter of English First, you already know this. But what you might not know is why I think now is the right time to be pushing such an ambitious agenda. After all, Congress seems to be firmly in the hands of the radical left.

In fact, after I sent our last month's letter, I got a call from a long-time member asking just this question. And I told him exactly what I am going to tell you now. America is in trouble. It seems to have lost its direction. On every front, we seem to be straying away from those principles and ideals that had made our country, not just great, but the envy of the world. We seem even to have lost our moral compass.

But it is in such dark times that Americans awaken from their apathy and find new resolve to do whatever it takes to make things right. It took Pearl Harbor to finally get the American people fighting mad. It took Sputnik to get America into the race for space. And, sadly, it took 9/11 to make us recognize the real threat of global terrorism.

Right now, the American people are rising up again to face the latest threat. Only this time, the clear and present danger is the failure of our own government. Confidence in our elected officials is at an all-time low. The last time the American people were this disgusted with their elected officials was in 1994 when the Democrats lost fifty seats in the House and gave Republicans a majority for the first time in forty years.

In times like these, Congressmen start to get nervous, deservedly so. Those who have sat on the fence recognize that it is time to take a stand - or pack their bags. Even those on the wrong side of the issue are starting to take a second look at their positions. In short, there will be plenty of Congressmen reconsidering the wisdom of following their party's leaders - Pelosi and Reid - over the cliff! And that is why I believe that this is the moment to push for everything we can get. And passage of H.R.1228 in the House and S.991 in the Senate would achieve everything we, at English First, have worked for these long years.

To be honest, the odds are still against us. It is clearly an uphill battle, which is why I will need the aid of every single English First supporter to win this battle.

H.R. 1228 is currently before the House Subcommittee on Government Management, Organization and Procurement. The committee Chairwoman, Diane Watson of California is currently preventing H.R.1228 from being marked up for debate and brought to the floor for a vote.

I am asking you to click here to send a prewritten email to your Representative today urging him or her to demand that hearings be held and a committee vote allowed on H.R. 1228.
