PORTLAND, Ore. -- Jose Enrique Arroyo will spend two years in prison and be registered as a sex offender for groping a 10-year-old girl at OMSI in March, a Multnomah County Court judge ruled Thursday.

Prosecutors said Arroyo, 34, touched the girl inappropriately during a busy Saturday at the museum. They also suggested he had targeted other girls as young as 5.

The child’s father saw Arroyo abusing his daughter and notified OMSI security. Four museum personnel responded to the incident and OMSI also called Portland Police, officials said. Arroyo was arrested and charged with two counts of felony sex abuse and two counts of harassment.

An immigration hold was also placed on Arroyo.

Shawn McTimpeny said his daughter was doing fine now. He added that what happened should be a wake-up call for OMSI to make security, personnel and policy changes that ensure children’s safety at the museum.

McTimpeny also suggested the museum install surveillance cameras.

OMSI responded, saying the museum took the situation “very seriously.â€
