Newspapers across the country are reporting that one of the major issues tying up Congress on the healthcare bill is immigration. Your phone calls have made that the case.

NUMBERSUSA ANNOUNCED OPPOSITION IN CAPITOL PRESS CONFERENCE

Rosemary Jenks (leader of NumbersUSA's Capitol Hill Team) just finished speaking at a big press conference in front of the Capitol with several Congressmen denouncing the loopholes for illegal aliens.

Read a transcript of Rosemary's press conference comments here. You can also view a video of the entire press conference.

MY OFFICIAL STATEMENT CALLING FOR A 'NO' VOTE ON THE RULE

This is the statement that was handed out to the large media presence at the press conference:

"NumbersUSA is mobilizing our 920,000 members to contact their Representatives to urge defeat of the Rule to bring H.R. 3692 to the House floor.

"NumbersUSA takes no position on the non-immigration parts of the bill. But Speaker Pelosi and the Rules Committee have broken the promises that Pres. Obama made that illegal aliens would be excluded from any part of a new federal health care plan.

"The loopholes that are being allowed in H.R. 3692 would be yet another major incentive for illegal foreign workers to break immigration laws to take jobs from American workers.

"NumbersUSA will grade all Representatives on their vote on the Rule.

"Representatives voting YES can expect their decision to be viewed as an anti-American-worker and pro-illegal-immigration action during the campaigns of 2010."

CONGRESS AMAZED THAT IMMIGRATION
IS SUCH A BIG DEAL WITH VOTERS

I got up this morning and the word "immigration" was in a headline about the healthcare bill on the front page of the Washington Post.

Immigration is indeed a tiny part of the bill, but it has become one of the major issues -- because you all keep making those phone calls.

Here is what the Associated Press is reporting just now:

WASHINGTON — House Democrats acknowledged they don't yet have the votes to pass a sweeping overhaul of the nation's health care system, and signaled they may push back the vote until Sunday or early next week.

Majority Leader Steny Hoyer, D-Md., told reporters in a conference call Friday that the make-or-break vote on President Barack Obama's push to make health coverage part of the social safety net could face delay. Democrats were originally hoping to pass the bill on Saturday.
The apparent problem: Democrats have yet to resolve intraparty disputes over abortion funding and illegal immigrants' access to health care.

Don't ever think your phone calls can't make a real difference.

Not only are you making a huge impact on the healthcare bill debate, but you are sending an incredibly powerful message to all Members of Congress to start making smart immigration decisions.
