Senate Returns Wednesday, Welcome them Back with Opposition to Guest Worker Amnesty
Immigration is front and center on the agenda for the Senate once it returns on Wednesday so keep those calls opposing guest worker amnesty coming! Please direct all calls made on Wednesday and Thursday to D.C. offices, and all calls made today and Friday to district and state offices.
Last week, we told you that the Chamber of Commerce has put guest worker amnesty at the top of its agenda for 2006. Now groups such as the American Bar Association, Americans for Tax Reform, and the Service Employees International Union are weighing in and joining forces with the Chamber, making our efforts ever more critical.
This week, we ask you to focus on contacting senators in opposition to guest worker amnesty, particularly those on the Senate Judiciary Committee - the committee with jurisdiction over immigration legislation.
1) Please call each committee member's office individually and be sure to mention you are a constituent if your senator is listed (see below for contact information).
IF YOUR SENATOR IS A COMMITTEE MEMBER, in addition to calling we ask that you SEND THIS FREE FAX from our web site.
2) After calling the committee members, please phone and fax your senators and representative in opposition to guest worker amnesty. VISIT OUR ACTION ALERT for talking points and to send this free fax.

Sample Message to Committee Members:
"I strongly urge you, as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee, to support the American worker by opposing a guest worker amnesty. We Americans will not be fooled by any program offering cheap foreign labor at the expense of American jobs, American workers and American families. Amnesty for those who are here illegally is rewarding people who break the law - and that's wrong. In fact, it's downright un-American.
Please use your power as a member of the Senate Judiciary Committee to stop the guest worker amnesty program. Support the American worker. Support the American family. Support America. Stop the guest worker amnesty!"
New From FAIR
FAIR has taken a fresh look at the various immigration reform proposals and put together an exclusive side-by-side comparison of them. Many proposals claim to support effective immigration enforcement, but FAIR's analysis shows that not all reform proposals are equal.

Urge Bush Administration to Reject de facto Amnesty Extension of TPS for Guatemala
Please call the White House (202-456-1111) today and urge the Bush administration to reject Guatemala's request for Temporary Protective Status (TPS) for its nationals illegally present in the United States. Tell the president we don't need more Central American countries dependant on their illegal workers to send remittances back to their home country.
While the region was affected negatively by this year's hurricane season, the country did not experience near the level of damage that would justify TPS.
TPS authority was not created to provide de facto amnesty in 18 month installments ad infinitum, but for the past decade, it has been used in this manner for Honduran, El Salvadoran, and Nicaraguan nationals. Nationals from these countries have enjoyed five extensions of this status since TPS was originally extended in the aftermath of Hurricane Mitch nearly a decade ago.
