How Does Immigration Impact the Environment?

I received a fund raising letter from "Progressives for Immigration Reform", which then sent me a 29-page printed report entitled "From Big to Bigger: How Mass Immigration and Population Growth Have Exacerbated America's Ecological Footprint", which can read below from their website. In their cover letter, PFIR lists the "Hon. Richard D. Lamm" as a member of their Board of Directors. Mr. Lamm is a former Governor of Colorado who has written a widely quoted piece about how to ensure the "death of the United States" through enforced multi-ligualism and multi-culturalism. So perhaps Progressives for Immigration Reform deserve a serious look despite the name.

How Does Immigration Impact the Environment?

There is a critical need to stabilize the population of the United States in order to protect the country’s environment, as well as the global environment. Biodiversity, wilderness areas, wildlife, and other environmental values are threatened by expanding numbers of people in the United States. At the same time, the pollution of soils, water and air affect the health of all Americans. Increasing population also makes the U.S. increasingly dependent on imported oil. As the price of petroleum products escalate, the United States is more likely to return to reliance on coal and other less environmentally friendly technologies for generating energy. Achieving environmental goals can only be accomplished if the population of the United States stops growing. That can only occur if immigration numbers come into balance with emigration.

Policy Brief #10-1 | March 2010 Leon Kolankiewicz

Mass immigration is increasing America’s Ecological Footprint (EF), pushing our country deeper into ecological deficit. Approaching 310 million, U.S. population currently exceeds the carrying capacity of our land and resource base. Nevertheless, high immigration levels exacerbate these trends by pushing our population to ever more precarious heights, preventing U.S. population stabilization, forcing annual growth rates to more than three million net new residents, and driving our numbers to a projected 440 million by 2050. If these projections hold true, by 2050 America’s population will grow faster than it is today, and the United States will be on a trajectory toward a billion or more by 2100. EF analysis provides additional scientific evidence that indeed, “numbers count,â€

Wonderful! So glad to learn that people are paying attention and doing the work that needs to be done! So glad to know that I am not alone in how I think and perceive things. Will they support us on June 12th?
