Border Watch Groups Gather Saturday In East County To Celebrate Fence Construction

New 18-Foot High Barrier in O’Neil Valley Nearly Complete

Camp Vigilance, CA. Members of various border watch groups are holding a celebratory BBQ Saturday at the site of where their struggle began in the fall of 2005. The Minuteman Civil Defense Corps gathered in this remote border valley then to protest the lack of border security with Mexico and the invasion of millions of illegal immigrants into the US each year. At the time, the border fence was little more than a pipe and rail barrier (see pictures attached) made from materials nearly 100 years old.

Thanks to their vigilance and political activism, three years later, an impressive fence structure is the new reality. Made from thousands of concrete-filled steel poles set 3 inches apart and 8 feet deep in the ground, the new border fence is a sad necessity in the roughest neighborhood in the United States: The US Border with Mexico.

According to Border Patrol Auxiliary Co-founder Carl Braun the fence is required to help restore order in the communities along the border.

“Combined, the twenty- four US counties along the southern border rank #1 in crime, violent crime, crimes involving children and crimes involving drugs. They are #1 in incidents of Tuberculosis, Leprosy and Chagas disease and dead last in healthcare, education, transportation and essential services. This fence will go a long way to securing these devastated communities and protecting them from the ravages of illegal immigration, both seen and unseen.â€
