Resolution ~ City of Taneytown is not a Sanctuary City
My name is Paul Chamberlain, Jr. and as a Councilmen for the City of Taneytown in Maryland, I am introducing a Resolution that states "The City of Taneytown is not a Sanctuary City for Illegal Aliens".
Here is the Resolution:
City of Taneytown Is Not a Sanctuary City for Illegal Aliens
RESOLUTION NO. _________
WHEREAS, the people of the City of Taneytown find and declare that:
We, the Citizens of Taneytown believe in the foresight of our Founding Fathers and the meaning of the Declaration of Independence; and
We believe in the principles set forth in the Constitution of the United States; and
We believe that we should stand up and not turn a blind eye to persons who circumvent the rule of law; and
In order to preserve the neighborly quality of life in our City; and
To affirm to our neighbors and communities that the City of Taneytown does not welcome individuals who are in the United States illegally; and
WHEREAS, the State of Maryland requires that local jurisdictions provide for the protection of its inhabitants and property as well as the preservation of peace and good order; and
WHEREAS, the State of Maryland requires local jurisdictions to adopt measures to secure the safety and general welfare of its inhabitants that are not in conflict with the laws of the State of Maryland; and
WHEREAS, federal law requires that certain conditions be met before an alien may be authorized to be lawfully present in the United States. Those conditions are found principally at United States Code Title 8, Section 1101, et. seq. Illegal aliens, as described by federal law, do not meet such conditions as a matter of law when present in the City; and
WHEREAS, federal law found at United States Code Title 8, Sections 1373 and 1644 prohibits the City of Taneytown or the State of Maryland from imposing any restrictions on the ability of City or State officials to send, maintain, receive or exchange with other government entities information regarding the immigration status, lawful or unlawful, or any individual; and
WHEREAS, the Mayor and City Council of the City of Taneytown believe that being a “sanctuary cityâ€
