As I was listening to Peter Boyles show with William as the guest, it was mentioned that the yellow pages were coming in Spanish with information for "newcomers (trans. Illegal Aliens).

New Spanish Dex directory to launch in 2007

Dex Media plans to increase its Spanish offerings in Colorado next February with its first Front Range Spanish directory that will include listings spanning the area from Greeley to Pueblo.

Front Range Dex En Español comes in the wake of the company's success with Spanish Yellow Pages, first introduced to Colorado in 2002.

"With the continued growth of the Hispanic community in Colorado -- and research that indicates that shopping patterns extend up and down the Front Range -- we made a decision to introduce a stand-alone directory," Vivian Alonso Vanden Oever, Dex lead product manager for Hispanic and multicultural products, said in a statement.

The Front Range is home to a growing Hispanic population. As of 2004, 21.7 percent of metro Denver's 2.22 million population -- or roughly 480,000 people -- was Hispanic, up from 18.9 percent four years earlier, according to the Metro Denver Economic Development Corp.

The new directory will include a resource called Tu Vida Nueva (Your New Life), containing seven sections aimed at aiding new area residents. Sections include health, education, immigration, culture and travel.

Dex is in the process of locking in advertisers for the directory, preparing for an initial delivery to more than 350,000 businesses and households.

Once based in Englewood, Dex was purchased by R.H. Donnelley Corp. (NYSE: RHD) of Cary, N.C., for $4.2 billion last year. The company has since moved to North Carolina but still employs roughly 1,000 people in Colorado.

Yellow Pages coming in Spanish

The Spanish Yellow Pages will be making their debut in New Haven in May.
The Spanish-language directory, called Seccion Amarilla, will have a few differences from the English version, the most notable one being the community section, in which aspects of American society are explained in simple language.

"The nice thing about our book is that it’s unlike any other book," said Mitch Daniels, senior account executive for Seccion Amarilla.

"We have a plethora of services — immigration, legal, Social Security, social services."

Among the directory’s features, CTTransit officials will write a piece on bus travel and bus safety, Daniels said.

Seccion Amarilla, Spanish for "yellow section," uses the same concept and model as Enlace Latino, or "the Latino Connection," the Spanish-language directory that previously served Hartford.

Enlace Latino changed its name in October when TELMEX, a telephone company based in Mexico, bought an 80 percent share of Blue Equity, the company that published Enlace Latino. Apart from the name change, the buyout brought about an expansion. Instead of two separate books for the Connecticut market, one book will cover Hartford and New Haven.

Jason Gazner, who is not Latino, founded Hola Hartford in 2001, which later became Enlace Latino.

"Now we have a huge company backing us, and this will help with both the size and quality," of the book, said Gazner, who is married to a Hispanic woman.

The expansion of the Spanish Yellow Pages is proof of the growing Hispanic market, said Gazner.

"It’s the fastest-growing demographic," said Daniels. "This will give businesses the opportunity to reach that market."

Seccion Amarilla is beginning to make presentations to New Haven businesses, seeking advertisers, Daniels said.

A&S Insurance, which has offices in New Haven in North Haven, is among the first area companies to sign up for a listing in the directory.

"It’s the first (Yellow Pages) book coming this way, so we decided to go with it," said Krystyna Miedzinski, a customer representative for A&S, adding that the agency serves a large number of Hispanic clients.

The spanish yellow pages won't be as soft as charmin toilet tissue but it will be yet another sacrifice I'm willing to make for my country.

We got our first one in Nashville, this year. Attornies and real estate agents on the front cover.

Yep, it's coming out here in Lexington too.
