October, 1996 - The Immigration and Naturalization Service (INS) had published a study that estimated the United States to host approximately five-million illegal residents. It was also estimated in 1996, that the illegal population was expected to grow by 275,000 each year. This same study reflected that Texas was second in the nation to California at 700,000; to hosting illegal immigrants. California was estimated to host over two-million illegals in 1996, and a majority of all illegals are from Mexico. The report contends that Mexico leads in countries of origin for illegal personnel residing in the United States.
