DeVore bill ends illegal immigrant college subsidy costing $117 million a year
BILL REPEALS ILLEGAL IMMIGRANT TUITION BENEFIT WHILE PROVIDING FREE COLLEGE FOR CALIFORNIA NATIONAL GUARD MEMBERS.
    California Political Desk
    January 12, 2008

Irvine, Calif. – In an effort to bolster membership and retention in the California National Guard, Assemblyman Chuck DeVore (R-Irvine) is proposing an education assistance program that would provide members of the Guard free tuition at state colleges and universities. Assembly Bill 1758: the California National Guard Tuition Assistance Bill was submitted to the Assembly this week.

Despite being the most called upon, California ranks last in the nation in education assistance for National Guard members. California is also the only state that does not provide free tuition to its Guard. In recent years, the Guard has been faced with retention and recruitment declines that experts blame on California’s lack of available benefits.

Many of our returning veterans are handicapped now... they need assistance and this can only help a minor bit.....

I am just sorry that the Viet Nam Veterans suffered for so many years while they were treated so poorly by Society and the Veterans Administration / US Government

Many Vets, Beirut all the way back to Korea have been treated so unfairly. I see the Government slowly but surely starting to take responsibility and Give due where its due… Many Americans have never seen such poor treatment of our Brothers and sister that served to keep America free... They try and keep it hid... Not these days brother not these days
The Thought of someone who broke in to American will get in line in front of one of our own gives me the most sickening feeling any man can handle…

I'm confused. Just a few months ago, Arnie vetoed th CA Dream Act. But it appears from this article that CA has had a Dream Act in place (AB 540) since 2001. So what was the Dream Act that Arnie vetoed, since there is already a Dream Act in place in California?

Can anyone help me out in understanding this?
