FL: Protests over illegal immigrants shuts down VA Hospital
Protests over illegal immigrants shuts down VA Hospital site at Lake Nona
Orlando Sentinel
February 16, 2011
Over 50 veterans, union workers and their supporters are gathering at the construction site of the Veterans Administration Medical Center at Lake Nona to protest the use of illegal-immigrant workers and a failure to hire union workers and veterans.
Contractors at the VA construction site are shutting it down because of the afternoon protests planned by many union workers and veterans.
A spokeswoman for general contractor Brassfield and Gorrie said construction workers were allowed to go home early because of the protests. The site emptied out more than an hour before the scheduled 3 p.m. start of the protests, which has not yet begun.
The protests are in response to last week's federal raid on the Lake Nona site. Federal agents arrested nine illegal immigrant workers hired by contractors to work on the site.
Nine people in the United States illegally were found during a multi-agency raid last week at the VA Medical Center, according to an Immigration and Customs Enforcement spokeswoman.

Good I hope there are more of them. It is nice to see more people are actually starting to do something. Maybe this will change other people's minds on illegals.

This is fantastic! Let's hope this is a sign of things to come, Americans protesting where illegal invaders are stealing jobs from American citizens.

Planned Protests Shut Down VA Hospital Site

ORLANDO, Fla. -- Construction on Orlando's $600 million VA Hospital was shut down again Wednesday. The federal government found illegal immigrants working on the project last week, but Wednesday it was shut down because of a protest.
There were about 70 protesters at the site. One of the main contractors, Brasfield and Gorrie, didn't want to risk any problems so it decided to shut down the job site at noon.
For the second time in a week, workers are off the job.
"We just heard there was a big protest from what happened last week, and contractors are coming so we all had to leave," said pipe fitter George Trimble.
Last week, state and federal agents raided the construction site of Orlando's new VA Hospital. It's a massive $600 million project that employs thousands of people.
Immigration investigators caught nine illegal immigrants trying to hide in the ceiling and general contractor Brasfield and Gorrie is accused of trying to hide them.
"This is about contractors who break the law, and try to shove the focus away from themselves and their illegal activities," said union spokesman Fernando Rendon.
Workers unions and veterans showed up to protest, not just about the allegations about the hiring of illegal workers, they also claim contractors used other unfair hiring practices, turning away qualified veterans and classifying skilled workers as laborers to pay them less money.
Veterans and union workers question why the VA hasn't stepped in and are calling on a federal investigation. Some workers were surprised a small protest could stop the huge project and were worried about losing out on half a day of pay.
But the Brasfield and Gorrie said it will pay them.
Some workers say they've heard Brasfield and Gorrie is on the way out. The VA chief engineer on the projects says the rumors are untrue and the company told WFTV "it's too early to comment on anything like that."

So Brasfield and Gorrie secures a government contract to build a veterans hospital and uses illegal invader labor to do it, while stuffing their pockets with millions of dollars in profit from the American tax payer.
What an outrage! They should lose that contract and people need to be arrested and held accountable.Join our efforts to Secure America's Borders and End Illegal Immigration by Joining ALIPAC's E-Mail Alerts network (CLICK HERE)

It will happen all across America as time passes. Citizens are fed up with undocumented aliens stealing jobs, and very little legal actions taken to prevent employers from employing illegal aliens.
When you aid and support criminals, you live a criminal life style yourself:
