Victor Garcia, left, and Jose Alberto Chavollo have been arrested in an attempted kidnapping near TCU on Saturday. FORT WORTH – Two men were arrested after police said they attempted to kidnap a woman near Texas Christian University, and authorities say they believe the men may be responsible for other attempted kidnappings in the TCU area.

Jose Alberto Chavollo, 19, was in the Mansfield Jail as of Monday afternoon facing charges of aggravated kidnapping, evading arrest and possession of a controlled substance. His bail was set at $31,000. Victor Garcia, 23, remained in the Mansfield Jail Monday on an immigration hold. He was also facing a charge of aggravated kidnapping.

Police were dispatched to the 3100 block of Greene Avenue about 3 a.m. Saturday after receiving a report that a woman had been hit in the head, Lt. Paul Henderson, a police spokesman, said in a news release.

According to the victim and witnesses, the victim and some friends were walking east in the 2900 block of West Berry Street when they decided to cut through a parking lot near the 3100 block of Greene Avenue. The victim was walking ahead of her friends when she rounded a corner and was out of view, according to the news release.

When the victim’s friends turned the corner a short time later, they saw her on the ground and a man was on top of her, hitting her in the head. The victim's friends confronted the suspect, who fled in a black Tahoe occupied by a second man.

The witnesses were able to get the license plate number and give it to police.

While the victim was being treated at Harris Methodist Fort Worth hospital with non-life-threatening injuries, a Fort Worth police officer driving north on University Drive at Vickery Boulevard saw a black Chevrolet Tahoe with the same license plate number. The officer followed the vehicle and attempted to stop it in the 3400 block of Clover.

As the officer approached the vehicle and ordered the driver and passenger to show their hands, the driver sped off.

The suspect led officers on a pursuit through the neighborhood. In the 4600 block of Driskell Boulevard, the driver and passenger bailed out of the Tahoe and fled on foot. Officers apprehended the passenger, identified as Chavollo, and took him into custody.

Garcia was arrested on a warrant about 8:50 p.m. that night in the 6800 block of Chickering Road.

Police say they believe the two men are connected with other attempted kidnappings in the TCU area. The investigation is ongoing.
