Lou Dobbs Tonight
Wednesday, May 7, 2008

Tonight, Sen. Barack Obama scored a decisive, 14-point victory
in North Carolina yesterday, while Sen. Hillary Clinton eked
out a 1-point win in Indiana. Clinton is vowing to stay in the
race—and asking her supporters for much-needed money.

Does Obama really have a lock on the nomination, as pundits
seem to assume? And if he does become the nominee, what will he
do for the American middle class? We’ll have all the latest
from the campaign rail. Plus:

* Nearly 100 people, mostly students, have been arrested on
drug charges after a year-long federal sting operation at San
Diego State University. One of the alleged ringleaders of drug
dealing operation is a suspected illegal alien gang member with
reported ties to Mexican drug cartels.

* The House of Representatives is debating a $300 billion plan
to let the government back loans for at-risk homeowners. But,
the plan hinges on lenders agreeing to lower mortgage
principals, which means less in profits for them, and they’re
showing no signs of cooperating. Meanwhile the president is
threatening a veto.

* Joshua Grant runs the concession stand at the local stadium.
He bought a modest house he could afford, put money down, and
paid faithfully for three years. But he was put into a loan he
didn't understand. His loan payments ballooned, he and his wife
fell into foreclosure. They’ve been racking up legal fees and
penalties and getting deeper and deeper into debt.

* As the unemployment rate rises, Congress is calling upon
employers to ensure seek U.S. workers first, before hiring
foreign guest workers—as they are required to do under the H-2A
and H-2B visa program. But there are serious questions about
whether employers are really playing by the rules.
