LOS ANGELES (AP) -- A commander and an investigator from a Mexican federal police unit have been ordered to stand trial in Los Angeles on charges of having more than $600,000 in drug money.

A Los Angeles Superior Court judge on Thursday turned down a defense request to dismiss the case against police commander Carlos Cepano Filippini and investigator Victor Manuel Juarez.

The men were arrested at a suburban home in July, along with Filippini's wife, Julisa Lopez, and her brother, Hector Manuel Lopez. The latter two also will face trial.

Police say they found drug proceeds in the house.

Filippini's attorney, Michael Proctor, says the case is very thin
