Republ Election Gains May Stall Business's Immigration Push

Republican Election Gains May Stall Business's Immigration Push
By Laura Litvan - Nov 2, 2010 9:17 PM CT

Intel Corp., Hilton Worldwide Inc. and other companies seeking a larger number of legal foreign workers through changes to immigration law likely will find their push thwarted by the Republicans’ sweeping election gains.

Lawmakers who will lead the debate in the new Republican- controlled U.S. House say they want to focus on securing the border and cracking down on illegal immigration, rather than other matters. Only after it is shown that fewer illegal immigrants are coming across the U.S.-Mexico border will they consider the revisions to immigration law sought by businesses, they say.

Representative Steve King, an Iowa Republican slated to head the House Judiciary Committee’s immigration policy subcommittee, said in an interview that he opposes lifting visa caps for lower-skilled foreign workers because doing so would depress U.S. workers’ wages. He said he would support increasing the number of visas for higher-skilled workers only if the potential employees meet criteria to boost the U.S. economy.

That means they should be young, well-educated and be able to speak English, King said. “That’s the indicator of whether they can assimilate into the broader society,â€

I would like to know how Brown can implement something like a DREAM ACT in his state, when it is a Federal Law that is suppose to be in oppostion to these kinds of practices. They sued Arizona for taking action on their own. California and others should be cut off from Federal funding if they persist with Sanctuary Policies. And that should be the end of that story.

It is time for Americans nationwide to boycott all businesses that employ foreign workers in any and every capacity. Period.

If Americans are so ill-equipped to function in the workplace, then we had better take a long, hard look at out education system and our moral compass.

As far as brown goes he will most likely get away with it because it goes with obamas agenda. Never mind the fact that ca is broke and soon to be more like tj than before! I already try to boycott places that hire illegals Its next to impossible here we have such a high rate of employers hirering illegals its pretty much evey where I go. ICE could sweep through so cal and they wouldn't have the resources to handle the amount of people here! If they just came to the block where my company is located and went door to door almost all the other company's would have to shut their doors due to the lack of employees

No they would not have to shut their doors - there 15 million unemployed Americans who should be gainfully employed but who aren't, and that is due entirely to the unholy alliance of our federal government and the corporate business community. All they need to do is stop extending unemployment benefits and put Americans back to work!

But that would be in direct conflict with their goal, which is to flood the country with as many foreigners as possible. Nations are defined by their people, and what better way to eliminate America than to replace her citizens with everyone but Americans?

This must stop, and if Washington won't put a stop to it, then we must!

    For our children.

When the media will not tell the truth to the public about the damages caused by illegal immigration it makes it difficult. I didn't hear not one network mention illegal immigration. Not one. Some how we need to get the truth out even if it means buying space in local papers. Somehow someway this mess has got to end. All the government is doing is stalling to give these people time to have even more anchor babies. Which will make it that much more difficult to weed these criminals out.
