ALAMOGORDO, N.M. - U.S. Border Patrol agents have seized nearly 1,000 pounds of marijuana following an inspection at a checkpoint in Alamogordo.
The drugs were found late Wednesday inside a compartment above the rear wheels of a semi trailer that had stopped at the checkpoint to be inspected. The drugs, valued at more than $737,000, were sealed in 820 separate bundles.

The agents arrested the driver, 33-year-old Jaime Granados, and turned him over to the Drug Enforcement Administration along with the truck and the marijuana.

The El Paso Border Patrol Sector, which includes New Mexico, has seized more than 87,000 pounds of marijuana in fiscal year 2008.
