MADISON, Wis. — Republicans who control the Legislature's budget-writing committee have voted to go along with Gov. Scott Walker's proposal to strike down a law allowing children of illegal immigrants to pay in-state tuition at Wisconsin colleges and universities.

The Joint Finance Committee voted to approve the change Friday.

Dozens of people who support the law passed by Democrats in 2009 have come to the Capitol the past two days to advocate for keeping it in place. Twenty-six protesters were removed from the committee's meeting Friday and cited for disorderly conduct leading up to the vote.
