PORTLAND, Ore. -- A Portland woman celebrated her 104th birthday by becoming a U.S. citizen Tuesday.

Marion Pringle received her certificate of citizenship on the same day her government issued form of identification expired.

Pringle was born in Canada but her parents were American citizens. Immigration officials said finding proof of Pringle's parents' citizenship was difficult.

She received her certificate of citizenship from immigration administrators during a surprise birthday party Tuesday afternoon.

"That's the best birthday present anybody could have," Pringle said.

After becoming a citizen, Pringle headed to the DMV to renew her Oregon identification.
