BRIDGETON, N.J.-- Raul Chasares, one of five men charged in connection with the 2006 sexual assault of a 13-year-old Millville girl, may be on his way back to Mexico soon.

The 24-year-old illegal immigrant was sentenced in Superior Court to 18 months in state prison on Friday. Because he receives credit for time that he's spent in Cumberland County Jail since his arrest, the sentence is considered complete.

However, it was reported in court that Chasares has an immigration detainer placed on him due to his immigration status and will soon face deportation hearings.

Chasares, a Bridgeton resident, pleaded guilty to third-degree endangering the welfare of a child last year, along with 23-year-old Oscar Estrada Lopez and 19-year-old Edson Leones, in connection with a 2006 sexual assault in which the underage victim was picked up outside of the Dollar Superstore on Irving Avenue in Bridgeton.

Prosecutors said the Millville girl was taken to various locations where up to three sexual assaults occurred before she was discovered 24 hours later in the company of the men at the Cumberland Mall in Vineland.

Alfonso Ponce, 20, of Bridgeton, who admitted sexually penetrating the victim, pleaded guilty to sexual assault and was sentenced last year to five years in state prison.

Vicente Rodriguez, 25, of Hopewell Township, who also allegedly sexually penetrated the victim, has been offered eight years in state prison in return for a plea to sexual assault and is due back in court on Monday for a status conference on the case.
