911 call leads to rescue of 8 lost illegal immigrants

TACNA, Ariz. Eight illegal immigrants were rescued by Border Patrol agents early today after they used a cell phone to dial 9-1-1 and report they were lost in the desert of southwestern Arizona.
The Border Patrol says the group was located by a Customs and Border Protection helicopter crew about two hours after the call came in.

The individuals said they had been walking for two days and had no water or food. They also said they had been abandoned by two people they identified as smugglers.

They were located about 22 miles southeast of Tacna.

The Border Patrol says none of the eight required or requested medical treatment.
