Two Polish citizens who admitted to helping illegal immigrants work on the Treasure Coast will both spend time in federal prison.

Jan Dziarski, 52, whom prosecutors say ran a local "franchise" of a much larger operation based in Orlando, was sentenced to 37 months in prison, followed by three years of supervised release.

His former girlfriend, Magdalena Grabowiecka, 32, was sentenced to one year and one day in prison, followed by two years of supervised release.

Officials said both will be subject to deportation proceedings after they serve their sentences.

Prosecutors said Dziarski, who also is a Canadian citizen, helped illegal immigrants gets hired and provided them with housing and transportation.

In exchange, he took part of their paychecks, they said.

Grabowiecka provided transportation for the illegal workers.

Attorneys for both defendants said this was their first brush with the law and they had accepted responsibility.

Dziarski's attorney argued he had no decision making authority in the operation, and he did not recruit illegal immigrants.
