Amnesty returns: No! No! No!

Defying sense both common and political, the Obama administration is gearing up to push immigration "reform" legislation that would repeat the amnesty mistake America made in 1986.

Members of Congress already know they face deservedly tough re-election races this November.

They know voters don't want government to take over health care -- and that American workers don't want illegal aliens legalized, especially with jobs scarce.

Yet White House geniuses think it's time to grant amnesty to illegals.

There's never any good time to eviscerate the rule of law by legalizing illegals -- period.

As the Immigration Reform and Control Act of 1986 proved, amnesty only greatly swells illegals' numbers.

Rather than drawing more, the U.S. ought to do what political self-interest leads too many in Washington to say is impossible -- deporting today's millions of illegals, one by one by one.

Sen. Lindsey Graham, R-S.C., who's drafting the new bill along with Sen. Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., appears to be the only Republican on board.

So at least the rest of the Senate's GOP minority stands with the American workers.

This White House and its Democrat majority on Capitol Hill do not -- and are wrong to defy both the popular will and history's verdict on amnesty.
