Stabbing MCALLEN - Two National Guardsmen sent here to back up Border Patrol are recovering from stab wounds. Law enforcement sources say they were stabbed outside a Downtown McAllen bar over the weekend.

According to sources one guardsman was stabbed in the abdomen and the other was slashed across the chest. It happened Sunday morning around 2 a.m. on 17th Street just as the bars were closing.

Sources say four guardsmen were out together. They were leaving a bar when a man asked them for money but they refused to hand over any cash. Another man showed up and an argument broke out. The two men started shouting racial slurs at one of the guardsmen. Then the men pulled out knives and stabbed one guardsman in the abdomen and stabbed the other across the chest.

The victims were taken to the hospital where they were treated. One guardsman was released yesterday and the other is expected to be out today. Sources say police arrested the suspects, who turned out to be gang members.
