WESLACO - A stash house bust Monday in Weslaco caught some residents by surprise.

Authorities arrested 76 people, but many got away, witnesses said.

"(I have) never seen so many (people) running through my fence," Rosalinda Garcia said.

"They all started coming towards my house. I guess they wanted me to let them in my house. I closed the door and they were at my door and my window and were like, 'hey, let us in,'" Garcia said.

The raid was part of a Valley-wide federal investigation, officials said.

Six hours after the stash house bust, when Border Patrol agents thought they had caught everybody, Garcia heard a knock at her door.

"It was one of the illegals that had gotten away. He was asking to me to let him borrow my phone," she said.

"I didn't want to open my door, because it was just me and my kids," she said.

The immigrant eventually vanished into the brush.

Border Patrol agents arrested two men, a Mexican national and a U.S. citizen, on charges of running the stash house.
