After 25 years, illegal alien in Ewing faces deportion

EWING — A Guatemalan-born man detained a month ago on immigration violations may have to return to his home country after 25 years living and working in the United States, where he also has raised a family, his attorney said.
Ramon, 45, a Ewing resident who previously worked at a Princeton-area restaurant, was ordered by a judge in 1997 to leave the country within a year but failed to do so. He was taken into custody in mid-July by immigration officials and is being held in an Elizabeth detention facility.
In a letter dated last week, U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement notified his attorney, Stephen Traylor, of Princeton Borough, that Ramon, whose family in Ewing includes two U.S.-born sons in the public school system, will not be granted his request for supervised release and will be deported.
